Kickdown cable leaks

Having issues with the VN. attempted to fix a bent kickdown cable thing coming out of the gearbox. I put the o ring back over the plastic cylinder part, and screwed the bolt back in to hold the cable onto the gearbox. its now leaking a fair bit. the same thing happened last year to a different gearbox. is there some special way of getting these things to seal properly? or should i go get a new o ring, or maybe some kind of gasket glue?
