Hey everyone,
I did a search for this but couldn't find much information about it. My radiator decided to wet itself all over the ground, so now I need to buy a new one. I saw that Morton bought one off eBay last year, but no one else had seemed to. I was wondering if anyone now has one, and if they're any good.
The two I'm looking at are:
aluminum radiator Holden V8 Commodore VG VL VN VP VS - eBay Other Performance Parts, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 18-Jun-09 18:39:36 AEST)
Holden Commodore Radiator, VL VN VP VR, V8, 88-93, - eBay, Cooling Systems, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 14-Jun-09 15:19:31 AEST)
Now, the Shanghai shit is cheaper. And it has a thicker core. But it's from Shanghai. the one from Blackburn looks a little better, it's also made of copper/brass instead of aluminium. Don't know which material is better.
Which one would you guys go for?
I got off for the VP off Egay about 2 years ago man. It's still working fine. Got it from some dodgy asians in Oakleigh lol.

couple of years back i bought a cheap $130(?) one off ebay, hasn't missed a beat or cracked. the welch plugs need doing in my engine which might be a symptom of dodginess but more likely is it's just not been done for ages.
why are the v8 ones $300? daylight robbery...
I bought mine from an eBay bloke up in the Sunshine Coast. VS V8 radiator - Alloy with plastic header tanks. $220.
Let me know if anyone finds a good thick alloy radiator WITHOUT a trans fluid core. I'm going to be needing one of those later this year![]()

i bought a 60mm thick alloy one from ebay, his username is kingswood country, only thing i found wrong with it was the core was slightly curved on the top... didnt affect the way it mounts or anything and it was only $310 delivered
CarsRus on Ebay used to be a site sponsor, so check out what they have to offer also![]()
got a brand new one of ebay 10 months ago for $90 and its fine
found it: Holden VN VS V8 Full alloy super thick race radiator - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 19-Jun-09 08:00:28 AEST)
$340 delivered to me. 100% positive on nearly 20,000 feedbacks - that's pretty damn good. do you know if it comes with a radiator cap?
levymetal your best askin the seller ,then i got my radiator it didnt come with a cap.
yep i checked just to confirm and it comes with the cap. i'm really suss about my current cap, it's the correct one... but i've had leaks from everywhere after i stop the car, like it's not releasing enough pressure.
bought it now, can't wait for it to be delivered. i'll also grab a new thermostat and top radiator hose while i'm at it. already put in a new pump, may as well make sure everything is nice and new![]()
aye kingswood does a good one :P
i'm running a china alloy radiator in the vn.
the only problem is that the cap is a bit sticky - not in a bad way, just it doesn't feel perfect when you close it up.... but that's all
as far as cooling is concerned, it keeps the car at whatever temp you dial the thermo fans on under back to back full power dyno runs.
as far as the whole china thing goes - i don't reckon there's that many rad core manufacturers in austalia... and you'd be paying HEAPS for a 100% aussie core, and aussie welds.
i think there's a mob called "just alloy radiators" that do china cores with aussie welds - they come about half way up the price range (but don't quote me on this!)
other than that - ebay special china cores with china welds. - but they seem to have proven that they're up to the task anyway. (in melbourne anyway)
as for the look of them - the alloy concept is a bit fancy looking, however the weld and build quality could be a bit better (looks wise - it seems to be strong enough!)
i ditched the idea of buying a new radiator and instead turbo'd and intercooled my car.
just kiddingyeah it looks real good, no leaks yet so i am happy with the radiator so far. however i am a bit pissed off because i bought a new thermostat, and when i took the old one out i realise it was 88 degrees and my new one is 91 degrees. i'm pretty sure 91 is actually correct, but now the temp gauge sits a smidgen over half as opposed to a quarter. and that's annoying
. that was idling for 15 minutes though, maybe when driving it will sit a little lower.
morton, you would love the alloy radiators, i should have weighed both new and old but the new one is bigger and it was probably about half the weight as the old one. maybe my old one is full of poo though, i'm not too sure.
The cap doesn't fit properly on the one I got from oakleigh, and it leaks even after trying to file it and get it on. I wouldn't buy another one.
for the record, my cap was fine. no leaks from the radiator as of yet
