Question Bored and have nothin g better to do with my time

One of my mates dads works for holden he's a mechanic. He told me some things you can do to help with performance. And i was woundering if anyone else has heard of this and if it works. First thing he told me was to block off the dog leg hose on the inlet manifold helps the car run better and gives it a smoth idole due to the fact the first to cylinders lean out due to bad air circulation. I cant see how this helps? The next thing he told me to do is kick down if you adjust it some how it gives you a much harder kick down and gear change can this be true?

You can adjust the kick down cable for harder shifts but it will change at inappriate times when you are just driving along normally, and as for blocking off the pcv valve i would do a bit of research before you do.

If you block off the PCV valves you'll eliminate the engine's ability to release pressure on blowby, and the pressure will come out somewhere else. Usually through a rocker cover gasket.

If you do that, you'll either have to run the PCV hoses to atmo (illegal), or through a catch can system back into the airbox.

hey where are the PCV valves located? are they in the hoses that go from the rocker covers to the throttle body, and if so are you supposed to have one on each side? my passenger side has one, and the whole hose is a bit greasy, yet my drivers side simply has a tube that goes straight from the throttle body to the rocker cover? or is it actually inside the fitting to the rocker cover? the fitting to the drivers side fell off yesterday (i don't know if it's supposed to do that ) but it's clean as a whistle...

Nah, they only have a valve on one side. Freaked if I know why, or why one is smaller than the other at the TB.

Thanks guys for your help. The mech told me today to make sure i put a oil breather on the rocker cover if i remove the hose. And as for the kickdown wich end would you adjust it from the top or bottom near the gearbox?

You CAN stick a breather on, but it WILL be illegal. Just letting you know OP

i saw you did it with your new engine morton, don't they make your bay dirty though? lots of cleaning for you what are the benefits? keep tb/manifold free of poo instead?

and about the kickdown, you'll know what it is. it's not the accelerator cable on the tb. i have mine a lot tighter than normal (push it to the drivers side for tighter), feels a lot better imho. i hated it when car would change at 2500rpm at half throttle. i made sure it was just loose enough to engage WOT and now drive like that. the tighter it is, the more you drive it like a manual. eg if you want it to change up a gear before you know it will (and the t700s are very predictable) you just take you foot off the accelerator as if you had a clutch. strange way of driving an auto, but i think it's pretty fun

Yeah, pretty much keep the TB (and sensors) free of poo, and have less hoses lying around. Being a 300,000km old motor, I get a decent amount of blowby, so I'm hoping this will stop me cleaning my TPS out annually

My kick down is on the other side of the TB with the accel cable and has two nuts holding it in place. Is this normal for vn or has someone played with it?

the accelerator cable has the 2 nuts the kickdown will be a push in adjuster you just push it in and pull the cable right out then open the throttle to full throttle and it will self adjust unless its a bit sticky and needs a lube.it should adjust so its tight at full throttle.
