Default VP autos have manual starters!!?

If this isnt news then forgive me. But I was flicking through a VP gregorys and noticed in one of the pictures it had a Delco Remy starter bolted to an auto engine. I flicked to the electrical section and the Delco Remy is the only starter specified. Amazed I ran outside to have a look under our VP auto wagon and yep, a Delco!

So whats all the fuss about finding manual starters?

Pretty sure the nose on the end of the auto starter won't fit into the manual bellhousing.

Sell one on ebay and see what sort of feedback you get. (kidding of course)

If it looks like the one in the pic it looks hopeful. Pretty sure the auto ones that don't fit are the ones that have a snout/shroud covering half the spindle.

i used my VP auto starter motor when i did my manual conversion. there is no snout/shroud on them. so yea, the Delco Remy starter motor on the auto's is for manuals too.

As pictured, no nose . The Bosch starters had the nose and as far as I was aware was only used on autos. Seems they moved to the Delco starter in VP for some reason.

The VP autos have a bit of a different setup to the VN series 1 autos.. (I am not too sure about the series 2 VN's though.) For one the auto starter motor in VP is the same as a manual starter (obviously as stated above) and two, the inspection plate is different. I think maybe because of this inspection plate that they wern't able to use the starter that had the snout like the VN did.

Check your VR one, it might be the same as the VP one.
