Going to change the Fuel pump (possibly shagged) and sender unit in my VN wag (its leaking).

The replacement is from a VR wag, hence the return line is part of the sender unit. Is it ok to just plug up the return line into the sender unit, and allow the fuel to return via the hose it originally does in VN's (i.e a few inches to the side of the sender)

is it worth it and/ or better to be done with it and just get the whole VR tank?
