what do you mean it's not coming on? when you first hit the ignition? or when driving? it's not meant to come on when driving, so your problem is already fixed

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have the same problem and the brown wire is not broken. And the battery light (when the ignition is first turned on) was working before I changed the alternator which has a new regulator with new brushes on it.
Tested with a multimeter and only getting 12.3 on idle.
Could the new regulator cause this problem or is there something else I should check?

turn the key to reds and check that the brown and the white and the big red wire all show 12v

    Cheers for info
The main has 12 volts. But there is no 12v on the brown or white I am confused at this point... I was hoping it was not the regulator.

did you have the regulator plug not plugged in do it without it plugged in.if there is still no power on the white wire there is a fusable link by the battery for it trace the wire there is a slightly fatter flexiable wire it plugs into at the battery about 70mm long.the brown goes to the battery light

Thanks. Will check all that today. At least that way I do not have to put the old regulator back on

Ok there is 12v on the white and the brown, so without a doubt the new regulator is a dud....

Yes that’s true... I doubt two alternators would have bad windings... Getting a new Bosh regulator this Thursday.
Could bad windings cause the regulator to break? The one I brought from the wreckers was returned because of a faulty regulator and they put another one in it while I was there.

Ok windings are fine... Put another regulator in and all is good if not better than it was before.

    Getting 14.10v at the battery
