September 1990 build VN auto - 270,000km - dual fuel - stalls, idles as if on 5, not 6. Otherwise runs well but "engine check" light comes on and off. Suspect injectors or a load of years old petrol in the tank but don't run it on petrol. Had this one about 3 weeks so not willing to "rip and tear" under the bonnet. Any ideas for a cheap fix (pensioner). Thanks (btw, my last Holden was a 1951 48-215 way back in the 60's).
leads, spark plugs
cheap start and good chance of solving problem
hi, welcome to the forum
engine check light will come on from time to time on gas - if you check your error codes i guarantee that it will come back as your oxygen sensor. this is not an problem, rather just something that happens on gas and is beyond your control.
as stated above, you also have to make sure you ignition is in top shape for gas, otherwise you will experience poor performance. a good set of plugs and leads should do the trick. you may also need to get it gas tuned once you've done that to get it running really well.
Open the bonnet on a dark night with engine running and see if there are any sparks near the spark plugs, spark plug leads or spark plug lead boots. Sometimes the boots are damaged (removing with pliers) and will leak spark, they can be replaced for a few dollars each.
Sounds like it could be the idle jet or the mix. Go to a gas tuner and get it looked at. As already mentioned, the engine light would probably be due to the O2 sensor, nothing to be concerned about.
defiantly nothing to worrie about as said leads and plugs are a must with lpg and rely you should get a lpg system tuned at least once a year during the spring thaw and the winter freez
i wont tolerate cretins aiming to cause problems here at jc and nor will i hesitate to let the moderators know
