Hey I think i may need to change the bulbs in my window switch, but I have no idea how it works, Any help is greatly appreciated.
No bulbs in the window switches, they're LED's.
IT wont be easy, ive got an old one that died on me......... seems they would be a pain in the arse to pull apart, then if your extreemly lucky you may get em back together but i dont hold hope in them working again.
you could paint the light with transparent blue hobby paint lol.
I too used a buggered one as a test dummy and i found that you don't need to take the whole thing apart just take off the actually switches themselves, inside them there is a soldered in green LED. So painting it wouldn't really be necessary as you could just change the LED to a blue one.. if you can find one that small.
try dick smith's or jaycar etc, any electronics shop should stock them.
I've been to autobarn, jaycar, radio spares, autobarn repco and none of them have them in the blue.. =/
does anyone know the size of them and if so is there is a code for it, and if you would need a new resistor etc?
thanks
u wouldnt need a resistor coz its a led already, the resistor is only to know a normal globe down in voltage...
u can get em from ebay as a last resort but keep checkin ya dick muffs etcc they do sell em they prob to lazy to order em in..
power windows switched can be pulled apart both ways from the button bit on top - or the whole bottom and top also come apart..
the 1st way is easier to put back totgether but harder to solder the led... the 2nd way is harder to put back together (lining up the led with a small hole) but easier to solder the led on
the size is just a 3mm led
Not quite true. The resistor is used to limit the current to the LED.
Depending on the replacement LED (i.e. its forward voltage and current requirements), you may need to change the value of the resistor.
I might stop at a wrecker on the way home from work and see if I can get a switch, pull it apart and have a look.
i took apart one of my switches, i have no idea why i actually did it, but yeah make sure you do it somewhere where you can easily find parts. i almost lost a couple of bits when it all came apart. also, i think by taking apart the switch completely, you'll end up breaking the connection of the leds? not too sure about this, but on the switch i have neither of the leds work, and i can't remember but they may have been working before i took it apart. or perhaps that was the reason i took it apart, to see if i could fix it. who knows. either way, it's easy to take apart.
Haha yes it is but when you pull the top from the bottom you break a soldered connection.. which im guessing is the led and probably why yours didn't work. I know this because i now have an extra switch because i couldn't figure out how to fix the one i butchered.the buttons themselves actually pop off to see the leds.
