Do you know it's the heater core that's blocked? It could be the heater tap. The tap can appear to open and close from the outside, but the plate inside could have snapped off the spindle, and be jammed against the tap housing.

If you need to take the climate control out, it's a full two days' work to remove and reinstall, I've done it to mine:

    Remove in roughly this order:

    centre console
    radio surround
    radio
    climate controls
    steering wheel
    steering column
    side vents
    speaker grilles
    glovebox
    fuse panel
    kick panels
    driver's seat

Then undo the screws along the top edge of the crash pad, and remove the demister vent cover
    Unplug all wiring
Undo all bolts retaining crashpad unit to the subframe down each side, and in the centre
Undo two bolts in the engine bay holding the crashpad on
Undo centre bolt up the top inside the car, holding the crashpad on
Remove crashpad, and lay it down where the driver's seat would be

Remove all screws, wires, hoses and vacuum lines retaining the climate control system and pull it out!

Without meaning to insult your intelligence - if you have no idea where to start, chances are you're not quite up to it. Take a look at my pics and ask yourself if that's something you really want to do. I hated it

Once you've removed the climate control system, disassembling it to fix the problem is another whole kettle of fish, and can take half a day to pull down and rebuild on its own.

There IS a shortcut you can do... majorly dodgy though.

Get access to the driver's side of the heater core by removing radio surround and centre facia.

Hacksaw the hoses off at the core, and pull the core out sideways (nothing holds it in, and the long tube lengths are screwed in halfway up)

Then hacksaw the NEW core tubes roughly 2" from the bottom, remove a 2" chunk from each, and replace that section with rubber hose and hose clamps. This then allows you to slide the new core in sideways, and then slip the vertical tubes into place, and slide them back down over the hoses. Done.

But that's for a core replacement. Sound like the plastic box is broken....

Dash out is the only answer.

there is 3 screws from the fire wall side to get to. If you get the replacement box first you will see the few screws up under the dash pad.

Done this to my SS just now. lol, I am amatuer as, and i really have no idea what i'm doing, but i'm learning as i go along haha, I am fairly hopeful of getting it all back together properly, one thing i did do is forget to take the steering wheel off, LOL. But ehh. Looks very messy and scary. I just wish i could locate a nice clean unbroken dash, mine is nice and clean but, it has 2 bubbles in the vinyl from factory, and lots of the little bits where the screws screw into are broken off, so it kinda makes it all floppy around the wiper and cruise control blocks. I'll post up some pics when i get a chance.
