Quick story, then some questions for anyone who has had a windscreen replaced recently on a VN/VP/VQ/VG
I had my windscreen replaced today through work - it was outsourced to a good customer of ours, who gets a "good" window bloke in to do all his work at "good" prices.
1) He charged me $190 to supply/fit the front windscreen and new rubber mould
2) He used a rubber mould because he broke my chrome mould beyond repair
3) He tore my rego sticker in half - a chunk of it is still missing out the middle
4) He says there was too much silicone in the old window, and as a result he tore away the front edge of my roof lining, exposing foam (about 5mm back, and it sags a little now)
5) I think he installed the wrong type of window.
Questions for you lovely people out there:
For people who have had new windscreens fitted in the last two years:
1) Do you have this black provision for a rear view mirror?
2) MORE IMPORTANTLY: If you don't have this blackout, can you please post a picture? (only for new windscreens)
3) How much has everybody paid to have a new front windscreen fitted recently?
4) Who with?
5) Has anybody had a chrome windscreen mould replaced? How much did it cost?
I need to get stories (and preferably pictures) from people who have paid less for fitted windscreens, and from people who have had plain windscreens fitted - because this bloke claims he can't get a window without the blackout area. Pictures below to explain.
Please note, I'm not going to call on anybody specifically to testify about anything - the stuff you write isn't legal evidence or anything. I just want a bunch of genuine stories from people who have had NORMAL windows fitted, so I can print them out and put more pressure on this bloke through work, and get my money back.
Oh, and in those pics, you can really see the bang-up job he did on my roof lining.

1) He charged me $190 to supply/fit the front windscreen and new rubber mould
thats about right, 160 for a screen and 30 for a rubber- thats what we get charged.
2) He used a rubber mould because he broke my chrome mould beyond repair
the chrome moulds bend all the time, he should have told you this before he started.
3) He tore my rego sticker in half - a chunk of it is still missing out the middle
he must be a bit unco i guess
4) He says there was too much silicone in the old window, and as a result he tore away the front edge of my roof lining, exposing foam (about 5mm back, and it sags a little now)
this does happen but it seems that after he cut the window out he just pulled off the excess instead of trying to cut it away neatly
5) I think he installed the wrong type of window.
pics?
Pics already up
I've removed a window that was stuck to a roof lining before. With some not-too-pedantic razor work, I was able to cut THE SILICONE instead of the roof lining. It's not that hard.

morton, what brand of glass was fitted ?
Last year the screen in my VS was replaced by a mates mate who fits screens for some fancy car dealers. Brand is lamisafety, made in China apparently. Cost $160 from memory. Did a prefect job on the glass but broke some of the clips on the plastic trim on the inside pillars.
crap mate thats no good um u remember my friends blue vq it had the same thing with the chrome stip i heard thats pritty common but the roof lining wtf they would of done a thousand windows by now they should of been to change the window with out doing that sounds pritty cheap what ya payed
sorry to hear tho mate
cant tell shit from those pics, how about one from the outside?
I had my front and rear windows replaced after a brick was thrown through each.
im not sure on the exact price, but it cost $700 all up... I got a $100 discount because they brought the wrong back window the first time, so i'd say $350 each? the back window was a little more coz it being a calais has 2 demister connections
It was with O'brian
(Rant: [they told me that my rear windscreen was THE WRONG ONE! and NOT FITTED PROPERLY by my tight ass POS insurance company - budget direct. cheap thieving f***ing bastards])
Yes, it does have that black thing you said
I'd be more than happy paying $190
Oh, and my rego sticker doesnt look very nice at the moment, but its not ripped in half.. I did have a parking permit on there though that didnt fare so well, but i got a replacement for that
ooo how much are second handies worth?
i paid 180 for mine in perth, sort of a self employed kinda fella, nice, cheap and no damage
shouldve told me you were after a new windscreen. had two replaced last year, on the VN and VR, and they cost 140-145, with no issues. the guy came round to my house to do it. i think a new rego sticker costs $15? im pretty sure mine has the blackout on the VN, but i will have a look tomorrow for you

Thankyou ^_^
Just to confirm for some of you out there, I'm not whinging that $190 is a bad price for a window transplant. It's a good price. But it's a BAD price for the wrong windscreen, ripped headlining, a broken rego sticker and a MASSIVE ugly rubber window surround. It doesn't even look like the factory one. Our salesperson at Bursons who knows nothing about cars took one look at my windscreen and said "that rubber he used looks wierd".
That said it all.

He could have called and said "I'm a clumsy ****er, I'm going to break all your chrome", to which I would have replied "Sure, I'll buy some and supply it, and you can fit it when you change the window next week"
But instead he just ripped off the chrome and replaced it with MASSIVE black rubber without a word of question.

faark that sounds weird... to be honest i paid mine and u wouldnt even know it had been done... apart from the fact my old windscreen was naffed.. lol...
um na i didn't say that, was just asking the brand, then someone may know if its a cheap dodgy one or good one...
I don't think mine has such a dirty big blackout as yours. i know its got a tinted top , and maybe a little bit
And for rego stickers i highly recommend sticking them on the rear quarter window, unless you have dark tints i guess..
You can't do the quarter windows in Victoria, stupid rules. I used to have my rego back on the quarter up in Brissy
And it doesn't have a brand name on it, it's THAT cheapIt just says it's laminated, that's it.

Our VT has that blackout crap on the back window, Ill check tomorow if its on the front aswell, I cant remember.
BUT We had the VS and VN window replaced recently and neither had that black shit on the window just your normal tint line.
On the VN we paid $240 for the window and an extra $30 to have the seal replaced. I know for a fact the seal was stuffed, caus I broke it by accident. Any way goes in to have the windscreen fixed, comes back with same seal, there reason "it didnt need replacing" yet they charged for a new seal anyway. Brother goes to open drivers door, nope it doesnt open, after argueing he just wanted to get out of there, so through passenger door and he brings the car home. Bent drivers gaurd to the extent the door didnt open, paint missing off door, gaurd and ROOF. The front gaurd and roof hadnt even been repsrayed two weeks and they had damaged it. Also they managed to lose all the stickers on the windscreen. Seems to be a quite a common thing to have dodgey repairs done on windscreens.
hey dude, i've had 2 new windscreens, one on my old vn and one on my vp, 99% sure neither of that had that funny area you're talking about. i will double check my vp tomorrow, can you see it from the outside? here is what my new screen looks like from the outside anyway:
for my vn i paid around $145-$160 and for my vp it was $160. vn was done through obriens, vp was done through a local company something like mornigton autoglass. both times they came to me etc. i don't have the chrome (mine must have been damaged previously), but i was happy with the job both companies did, i feel really bad to say this but your roof lining is ****ED...
i will take some photos for you tomorrow so you are armed with some material, i would be taking action against that roof lining (absolutely disgusting) and damaged chrome. they should pay to fix it if they damaged it. in fact that blackout region is starting to piss me off, little things like that annoy me and i don't know if i would be able to put up with it or not...
WOW thats bad mate i did the VP myself and did a much better job ide say the damage to the roof lining is from using a wire with handles to run round the screen to cut the adheasive dodgy job.I oaid $160NZ for the window and only had the tint strip.there was 2 windows they said one with a special pad for sticking the mirror too the glass so they said.get him to pay for a new hood lining and obviously removing and installing both windsreens to put it in as well bastard should cut his fingers off so he cant do any again LOL
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
just so u know morton the chrome moulds are still available from holden for about $230 ish iirc
yes the original chrome mould will never come out with out damaging it as it is metal.
i did the ring around in perth just the other day for a new screen my quotes were $346 and the other two i got were $290 the chrome mould was quoted $204 and $240. apparently the guys can do one similar to the original stato one but is full rubber with the chrome and is reusable and cost of this was $50..
morton the screen that was fitted to yours is one for a vr/vs commo with the stick on mirror
Morton you have every right to kick up a stink. I wouldn't have paid him a cent. To go and do dodgy work like that, let alone on a Statesman, and to rip your roof lining like that, that's not on !! Are you still in contact with this guy? I'm telling you right now, if it was my car, and they did that, and charged me for it, and they werent willing to fix the problem i would have kicked the shit out of him !!! no joke !
