Default Just bought a new VN Commodore.

600 bucks. Bargain, looks pretty decent - doesn't seem thrashed out. Was just wondering what people thought about the old VNs, are they good to give a thrashing? And is it faster then a stock VL (my previous car)? Any thing would be sweet to hear.

Was thinking of painting the bumpers up first, don't like grey on white. Or is there no better combination that looks good? I was probably going to go white on white, but if there is a better combo it would be better? (Pics)

Oh and is replaceing the front stero speakers easy? I have some 6x9's at home which I want to put in as the stock ones are extremely shit!

    Will post pics up later.

EDIT: Oh and what is fuel economy like with the VN? I had an old VL and the economy was terrible. I have a V6 by the way.

you will only fit 4inch speakers in the dash otherwise you will have to put them in the door which is easily done if u fit vs door pods/speaker mountings just means a bit of cutting to the front door trims.

black on white would look good but thats all personal preferance

as for which car would be faster it all comes down to maintence etc both cars are getting quite old now so probably best not to give them a "thrashing" and rather just driving them sensibly and enjoy them for what they are.

good luck trying to get 6x9s into the front doors. you'll have to cut into the metal behind the door skin, and even then the mounting depth of 6x9s might be too deep and you could hit the window. could get some spacers if you like things that look like crap.

underneath parcel shelf has factory provision for 6", i think they just fit 6.5" too. if you want some more 6x9s in the back, don't cut into the metal, it's unroadworthy and easily spotted. get some deep spacers and put the 6x9s on the parcel shelf. i did this - only because someone already butchered my parcel shelf before me though.

Its not that they are hard to handle, its just that morons buy them because they are cheap and love to show off to their fully sick mates how hektic they are at getting one wheel to spin, then post it up on youtube.

But they do love a thrash here and there. Keep it maintained and dont sit on the limiter for long periods and you should be right.

I have 3 VN's and they all handle very well. It's all about how well they are looked after. If the shocks are 15 years old = bag of shit. All my VN's have good tyres and stop well in the wet.

yeah, well I wasn't going to cut into the metal for either front or back - I have spacers for the front ones (I don't mind a little bit of bulk) and for the back I was just going to surface mount them.

my vn has all new suspension and i say it handles like shit dude. at least compared to a japanese sports car. true unfair comparison but VNs cant handle.

they need far larger sway bars as well as font/rear strut braces and some decent hard springs before they ll handle better.

however, they can take a reasonable thrashing, that being said, redlining the car for a long period of time would kill it. thrash it with half a brain and it ll last, just make sure to change oils often, run slightly heavier oils then stock. also, check and replace parts when needed, since you now own a VN, the wrecker is your friend.

fuel eco isn't great. i dont have standard ecu so i wouldn't know what stock is like but more me city driving is poor, highway driving is alright.
You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. This is your wake up call.
