need help BAD. vn not running right.

hooked up a sub/amp over the weekend, worked fine. today something went wrong in my mates driveway, car smelt of something burning when we were about to take off, so we unhooked the power cable from the amp as smoke was coming from the wire connections of the sub. now, my car sounds like shit, sounds kinda like it has a mild cam, and its got next to no throttle response. what the **** has gone wrong? checked a few fuses, all seem ok. any tips would be greatly appreciated

subwoofer and amp are currently OUT of the car, only wires left in are remote wire and audio wire. really cant be ****ed for rippin my head unit out again just for that bullshit. but i will do what i must to get my car running correctly.

indeed it is. however its set me back 5k, not really keen on losing 2 grand for nothin. but if i were to get a new car. id prob go a vk/vh, because theres less electrics.. but i'd rather the 3.8 over a 202 lol but yeah, as i said, cost me 5k, not getting that back so i wanna fix the bitch.

yeah fair enough mate mines cost me about 3 grand to fix but i only paid 3000 for a 5 speed manual calais with two free mags.. which i sold so she didnt cost me too much upfront, but a good 3k in repairs.

yeah dunno, any more troubles might sell it, buy a vh/vk or a buick grand national. but the grand national is gonna sting me about 14k minimum, needa buy it, get her shipped, but i'll get a rolling shell put my own engine/box in. but mm -.- stupid vn. agreeing with zuicider, i think its the ecu but i dunno how to check it, an how much will one cost me at the wreckers?

3 and 5 k is all u have spent? LOL haha i made the mistake of going i dont want to waste one k to now where its only good to me as parts, since 2000, ive had 3 engines at the cost of 6 k, another 9 k spent on worn parts and there is still mroe i havent included

lol man, im 16, 5k just for a roadworthy, before replacing the engine which has 290,000 on it, i've only had the car 6-8 months lol. its a heapo shit >.< so all fingers point toward my ecu? and if so, whats caused it: i got the sub off a mate of mine, along with 2 clarion 6x9's and a kenwood head unit, (Swapped him a 3fer for it.. or $50 for those who dont know) gave the head unit to my brother, shit itselfg after 4 months, clarions are in my car now, goin well, my mate got all the stuff from his brother who left it at his house, (he upgraded his system) im guessing the sub was ****ed and neither my mate nor me knew, would that blow my ecu? i had + and - hooked up correctly, the amp was put in exactly as BOTH the wiring kit instructions, and the amp instructions told me. but i had no instructions for the sub as its old as shit, its a blaupunkt velocity, but its old, i havent even seen any pics of it on the net. off the info i've just given, have i done something wrong, or was the sub ****ed to cause it to short out or something? (note: when we first realised, the car reeked of like the wires burning, flipped the sub up, and had a small amount of smoke coming from where the wires from the amp connected to it)

okay guys i appreciate the help. however somebody pointed out something to me today.. a guy at autobarn (who did half the work on my car for the roadie..) said if my ecu was ****ed, my car wouldnt run at all.. aaannddd we drove the car from my mates house about 4kms away back to here.. suggestions?

lol a car can still run if the ecu is ****ed, mates ecu starts the car car runs normal then over heats very quickly just go by trial an error

you shouldnt have got a car, these things happen and they only way is to get a few good spares to keep in emergencies
