Default torque powerup for a vp commdore v8

what are my options for a improvement to lo down torque - ive got a vp v8 that ive transplanted into a landcruiser - we tow a camper with a boat and a quad and while the new motor is a huge improvement - you always want more!!

is there a chip or suchlike for these - or am i best off looking at stroking it - your thoughts please

    cheers

A stroker would probably be a very good option to get the torque that you want.

You can get a replacement memcal but it probably wouldn't do that much in a Landcruiser. I would be stroking it too, but a couple of grand may be more than you want to pay. Put smaller wheels on it, but you would then be sacrificing top end.

    thanks for the responses guys

i was looking at LPG PERFORMANCE CHIP MEMCAL VN VP VR VS VT V6 & V8 - eBay Mod Chips, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 11-Jul-09 22:39:31 AEST)

long term i think i might buy another engine and get it stroked etc - but in a weeks time we are leaving to travel australia and i was wondering if one of those memcals would work - its mated to the toyo 5sp which was making me think that it might not play nicely together

the vehicle will be pulling a combined weight of around 4tonne - so an extra few kw when going up a big long hill never go astray

so ive kinda got a short term easy fix im after as well as a long term full on fix that i will do after the trip so any ideas would be great

powerslave - i dunno about the blower - how would that go on fuel? is it hard to get engineered in perth? how would it go with the snorkel?

    hi there 1st post here
i would run pulp if i was in hilly country
    is it running lpg??
what kind of rpm are you doing at 100 k's ?
memcal will help but only a little
if your donk is good and strong just put on a blower (supercharger) and will give you very nice low end power and toque
great for towing without having to rev the v8 hard
not sure about engineering in perth (you guy get away with everything) and you could just make an adapter to fit you snorkel so you can still go 4wding

    hey risky

    thanks for the reply

im running dual fuel - obviously i try to run lpg where possible cos its cheap - but when i get remote i use the lpg purely as a reserve and have a long range petty tank

@100km its about 2250 rpm in 5th - but you cant use 5th uphill as its an overdrive gear and not strong enough to tow - so as soon as it heads uphill i change to 4th and about 2700rpm

on my last rip i was running petty as soon as it got hilly as the gas was a little breathless on the hills - i really notice the difference on gas as oppsed to petty even when not towing

    love this motor!!!

this is the fella you gotto get in contact with for a memcal, he is on this forums and alot of people run his tunes on here and are very happy with them, but as said, a memcal will give you a bit more go but if you are after massive improvements then a charger or stroking is the way to go

Get the ebay tune recommended (I have one from nicefrog, they're amazing), and some tri-y interference style Genie extractors with a good exhaust system. They provide a great boost to low-mid torque.

If by any chance that V8 has a big lumpy cam in it, remove it and fit a standard (or near standard) cam

    +1 for nicefrog's tune
