I was thinking of putting in some wood grain trim. Has anyone attempted this?
What would the best type of timber to use?

Terry

depends what you want to trim inside some inserts etc ide just go buy some nice wood veneer like the cabinet makers use on cupboard doors etc.

I was thinking along the top of the door trims, and dash, under the vents along the flat bit.

Wood veneer would b the easiest 2 work with definatly u can even get some veneer edge tape with or with out adhesive on the back. Types of timbers r pretty much endless so depends on ur tastes?

mate go to a cabinet making supplies place and ask to to look at the samples for the would veneer sheets.
There will be a pile of different woods and 2 or 3 different cuts.
you would only need 1 maybe 2 pieces and maybe pay around $40 a piece.
I know i have seen timber with that grain, i think it is the one that is peeled off the log.
The timber will be SUPER porus when you try to vanish it to so seal first.
couldnt you just get like a sticker of it cut it to shape and bake it on ? voila
Eureka styles!

wood grain automatic centre console bit always on ebay
Yep. ebay have a wood grain sticker kit for the car.
Shifter surround, head unit/ air con surround and a few other little bits.
Photos dont show it on a car so i cant assume how good or bad it looks.
But it might be what you are after.
how you go with the wood grain im very interested to know?? cheers
I'll give that a go for sure! Thanks heaps for the tip!
Yeah it's one project that you need to take your time with, or it will look nasty for sure! Specially for the wow factor.
Thanks for the idea, I was actually looking at them the other day. But one problem that I might run into if I decided to go with that idea is, matching the other wood grain strips to that style.
Thanks for the brilliant idea though!
I'm still working on the interior, but I will be going further into it, in a couple of days when I have finished everything else
Thanks again guys for all your great idea's!!!!

Here is an update...
I bought some 6mm balsa as it's light and easy to work with. Just got to be careful as it marks and dents easy.
I just stained it, and I'm in the process of spraying some layers of clear.

ok i inder stand the bits that go in the door near the handle but where does the other strips go?
Wrecking VL factory V8 only a few bits left still have full dash/crash pad
and have a vk 202 motor and 5 speed Make an offer want it gone
Hmm interesting, I would of gotten some nice pine & got it machined down to 5mm & beveled & stained it for that beautiful look.
THe bulsawood will crumble after time.
Cheers
