Hey
I have a vp calais and i have 2 replace the heater core which requires me 2 disconnect the air con lines. its still on the old R12 gas so obvoiusly it will have 2 converted, does any 1 know what exactly they have 2 change 2 get it onto the new R134a gas? Also when my compressor cuts it at certain engine revs the air con makes a high pitched squeeling noise. Please dont try and tell me its a loose belt squeek or something like that im not stupid its within the air con system somewhere.
Thanks
OK this is what they do to convert you to R134a:
- New reciever dryer.
- New dessicant.
- New recharge port fittings.
- New high/low pressure cutoffs (not entirely sure, but older cars need them)
- Flush the system
- New ester based oil for the compressor (mineral oil stuffs up R134a)
Thats about it off the top of my head. Some people go crazy and replace all the hoses and the evaporator (the evaporator is in front of the radiator) and in some cases the compressor. This isnt necessary though unless your system is in really bad condition.
It cost me $250 at an Auto-Aire joint to get it done on an old falc. Id assume the commy is about the same.
