Default oh joy, another problem with my vn..

hey guuyss.. figured someone here might know.. today, went for a drive in the vn, took off round the corner, head unit loses power, then 2 seconds later it comes back on, then 5 seconds later, its off again, then on, but turns out it wasnt just my head unit, my tacho loses power, my headlights dim right down, my fuel/oil light come up, and occasionally there is a ! light come up on my dash.. however; the car still runs.. it doesnt cut out or nothin, however it idles fine, no power loss at all, but sometimes it will almost stall (whilst coming to a stop) is this:a fuse? a relay? a problem with the earth? or a mystical problem trying to tell me this car doesnt want to be owned by me, and will eventually kill me? (went to autobarn, was told that it could be a relay, or an earth wire in my ecu, or an earth wire in my ignition switch, checked ecu, all fine. didnt check ignition switch yet though.)

    any help greatly appreciated.

battery connection is all good, the cars earth wire was apparently a little f_cked, but should still work..is there a way to check if my earth wire is functional?(keep in mind, my power turns on and off, over and over again, unless we idle..) and yesterday arvo when we first noticed it, there was a click (which sounded like it was underneath the car..) it would click, then power off, click power on.. couldnt really have a look as it only happens whilst car is moving and im not keen on hangin my head out the door :P

EDIT: oh and tvr, im starting to think, that you love using big words :P "programmatic specificity"...... WTF IS THAT!?!? oh, and "natural complementarity" that stuffs confusing ay O.O

anyways back now, havent been on in a few days; checked my ignition switch, (as i was told at autobarn) nothing wrong there, checked my ecu's earth, same again nothing wrong. but as i said, at autobarn i was told my earth from battery was a little rooted, would this be my problem? as (usualy...) when foot comes off accelerator car loses power (engine still runs, but headunit, dash, even tacho die..) so im losing power to EVERYTHING except my engine itself. also noticed a tick, it happens every time power turns off, and again just before it turns back on, keep in mind, power fails for MAX of 4 seconds.. please dont say dont worry about it, because if i say that to the cops when they say my headlights just turned off they're gonna say something like this; ..........--canary--

Do your basics: Plugs, leads, DFI module, coil pack, throw a different battery in and try that.

After that if it's still playing up, come back and post up in this thread and go from there

Voltage regulator on your alternator it sounds like,

Upgrade your earths, replace the voltage regulator on the alternator, (It may be the alternator itself)
$50 from wreckers an you have another alternator with regulator, no big deal.

But, Check earths, Replace alternator, Get your battery tested.

    Cheers

yeah its def ya alternator, sounds like low brushes ( regulator).

put a multimeter on the batter, should be getting around 12.00v off
and above 13.50v on but if it there is nothing the alternator isnt charging.

reg helps 70% of the time, but may need new rebuild. or new

--nothing to do with alternator, was my earth wire. replaced it with a new one (like 6x thicker) and its running perfect, drove to sail and back with no problems, could the earth wire be why my sub wouldnt work? (not keen on puttin it in again as last 2 times ive done it my car shit itself, first coil pack and then the earth.. i did everything according to instructions too O.o didnt cut corners- so, i'll send it to autobarn and say; can you put this in, ive put it in "correctly" and it dont work, shit ****ed up, if your gonna put it in, keep in mind shits gone wrong before, and i dont wanna be getting it back in a worse state then i took it in.

HOWEVER if yous can confidently tell me my shitty thin rooted earthwire was the problem with my sub not working, i might attempt it again.

    CHEERS!

you were trying to draw 200w+ out of a dodgy earth lead, yes i would say that would have been the problem with your sub.

well between 400w and 800w, but would that be why my coil pack shit its pants and why the earth screwed up the second time? (these problems occured as soon as i had problems with sub.. e.g coil went bad when my sub shorted out.. and earth went bad when it DIDNT short out.. nothing went wrong..?)

:/ alrighty, gonna put in the sub again.... i have reason to beleive, it didnt work the first time because of sub shorting out, somehow affecting my coil pack, new coil pack, new sub, try again, battery earth failed, (was thin and frail, now have one thats like 5x thicker) so now i'm keen to try again... hoping the earth is why it hasnt worked yet. OR if its my amp, could it affect my car by putting it in again? (amp was brand new, but maybe shit itself when the first sub shorted out?

based on the above information... if you think i really shouldnt be putting it back in, let me know ASAP.

    cheers
