hi all I want to install a hydralic handbrake in my VN and wondering how I go about installing, stuff I will need etc thanks.
I second that. Mods can u delete my same thread I made about this. Since this is now bumped![]()
simple question why?
ok i can under stand that.
this would be a bit of work and mean that the back bracks will not work when the pedal is pressed.
the easy way would be to fit a little brake master cylinder and lever like on trailers with override braks and join it to rear brake line.
^^ as above.
you can get a master cylinder from an old range/land rover (can't remember which one it is that works) - it's a reservoir-less cylinder that takes the fluid from the original rear brake line.
so you basically plumb in your handbrake master cylinder into your back brake line.
when the handbrake is pulled, you'll get a funny feeling in your brake pedal (i.e. when trying to slow the front wheels with the back wheels locked) - and obviously your back brakes (via the pedal) will not work with the handbrake pulled up. (but presumably you're pulling the handbrake because you want to control the rear wheel speed anyway)..
you can buy hydraulic handbrake kits if you want a 2nd handbrake lever, or if you're crafty, there's enough room to d.i.y. a linkage mechanism off the original handbrake lever - while retaining cable operation too.
I just found out from my mechanic that It'll cost me just a tad under 400 bucks, parts n labour.
He's done it before. The only tricky bit, is mounting it where you want it, and If you want to keep your center console intact it can rise an issue, but nothing that can be sorted out. You'll want to keep your original handbrake and just put the hydraulic in next to it somewhere.
I'll let you guys know what happens, and I'll take pics![]()
$400 isn't a bad price at all. I think you should go ahead with it, and send PICS![]()
