Default Warning engine lights on between 40 and 60 km/h

    hello,

Since a few days my engine warning lights on between these speeds. When I'm up or down these speeds, the light turn off.
Do I must check the computer for codes?
Or is it just an electrical pb?
cause since the same time, the central lock open and lock the car by itself!!

    If you have an idea?

    thx++

Check your diagnostic codes that will tell you what's going on.

Even if it is an electrical fault it might tell you what what circuit you should be checking.

The procedure can be found at:-

    code 13 oxygen sensor

I found some on Ebay for about 50 dollars! It say "an oxygen sensor is a device that detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust stream and sends that information to the ECM for appropriate fuel control"

On the series 1 VN it is located on the exhaust manifold, above the flange.

On the series 2 VN it is located on the Y pipe directly below the flange.

If you are located in NZ then there is no sensor at all.

It should look something like this:

If you have a multimeter you should be able to check the wiring continuity. It connects directly to the ECU via 2 wires. I think from memory on my VP they are black and purple at the ECU end and black and tan on the sensor end. I assume, but am not certain they would be the same color on the VN.

There is also a plug about midway along the wires that may be the source of your fault.

A Wiring Diagram for the VN V6 can be found at:-

    VN Wiring Diagram.

It shows the ECU pin numbers for the Oxygen Sensor are D7 (violet) and D10 (black). The black wire on the sensor itself should connect to the violet wire, the tan wire on the sensor to the black wire at the ECU end.

Let me know how you go.

    Did you test your wiring?

It may not be the sensor itself.

humm what should I check with the multimeter ie wich measure you should I use and wich results should I have?
I don't really know how to proceed with that instrument
and if it's not the sensor itself, what could be the cause?
    thx

Disconnect the wires from both ends and use the Ohms setting. This may be shown as a funny little horseshoe symbol on the meter (It's the greek letter Omega).

You are testing whether or not there is continuity from one end of the wire to the other.

You select the ohms scale and attach one test lead to one end of the wire and the other lead to the other end of the wire and take note of the reading on the meter.

Generally if it's just a straight piece of wire the reading will be less than 1 ohm. It might be 0.4 ohms for example. If it's an open circuit (no continuity) most times the meter read out will not change.

Most multimeters also have a "beep" function which will beep if there is continuity (below a certain resistance value).

Oxygen sensors ... annoying ... easy to replace yourself .. cost like $70

if your inlet manifold has a coolant leak from bad gasket it creates steam that when hits the sensor will corrode and kill them quickly ...

so theres a tip for ya all ... going thru o2 sensors more than usual ... get ya inlet manifold gasket replaced..
Vn executive 1990 200,000kms as of 13/6/08 , oil changes every 5000kms since it rolled out the factory , strut brace for hard cornering, kn pod filter, Ngk iridiums sports exhaust..what else can I say I love my holden

I get this car with 320000 km and now she's got 331000 and never had this code 13 before. I will check but I don't think I've got a problem with the gasket. The sensor is quite clean.

Wait to find a multimeter to test the

So, I got a new oxygen sensor (genuine part), one wire for VN modele, VH engine number but it's quite different as the old one I had before (it's like the 2 or 4 wires model)

Do you think it's normal? what should I do?

anyway, mine was totaly ****ed so I had to change it

And my pb is still there, code 13!
    ****!
Will check this afternoon with a multimeter

i dont know weather you mean you had a 1 wire sensor and they gave you a 4 wire or the other way round LOL.but did you reset the ecu after you fitted the new sensor the code will stay there till you do
