G'day all
I was on my home from work when i spotted v6 3800 and gear box on the side of the road (only been where a day or to)The motor had blown con rod witch blow a window in the block (still good for parts)so is there any of id'ing the gear box vn/vp/vr and testing it without putiing in to my car?To see if its worth getting fixed because my gear is just about dead in the vp and iam looking to put a shift kit in this if its worth it?![]()
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think there is a metal ID tag or something like that on the box somewhere. If you know what Gearbox is in your car and the tag says the same model then you are home and hosed.
One thing to think about though; If the engine has put a leg out of bed (suggesting that it has been well and truly flogged), then you could also say that the gearbox will not be in much better condition as it is next in line.
Would be a lot of work only to find out it's no good.... be careful
theres one thing my father always told me and thats if you ever find a gearbox on the side of the road you should probably leave it to be
You get what you paid for, If you didn't pay for it, sell it on ebay.
Cheers
