    Default Help with Parts needed

I have recently purchased a vn sedan and it needs a along list of stuff done to fix for rwc.
Lots of little things like lights and reconnect horn and secure battery.
theres a few things im not sure about though

The things i need info about

-Left Hand engine mount oil contaminated (ive been told by my tafe auto instruvcter just to clean it with petrol and it should pass) ill try to get a picture

-Radius Rod Bushes Worn ( now apparently for these theres two bushes each end of the radius rod. so ill need both bushes. ive been quoted 15 for one side and 20 for the other. now do i need two of each? so 70 bucks? as there is a radius rod each side right?

-Strut Top Plates Cracked ( i think this is the rubber plates on top as they are persihed and severly cracked) ill get a photo.

Stabiliser Link Bushes. now with the stabiliser link bushes theres apparently 8 bushes or something? is this correct. ive been quoted 3.50 each for the rubber ones. so $28 all up for 8. or a a new rod with 8 nothalane bushes for $40. which should i go? also is there two stabileriser links? like one each side? so ill need to buy two sets of 8? my tafe said there is another bush i should replace on a part coming of the link, is this right? what are they called?

    Left Hand Front Strut Leak.

I have found a second hand left front strut for 45 bucks. can i just put this in to replace the original leaking one?

if anyone is interested in selling any of the following i may be interested, pm me

    -Right headlight
    -Pair of tail lights
-VN Glove box rear panel ( i have the fornt but the back part that holds the front part in to pivot off is broken.
    -exhaust
    -rear muffler
    - Cat

alright thats all thanks for ur help!

the engine mount well have a look if it looks squashed then it needs to be replaced.
a real shit of a job.

radius rod bushes. have two different ones, the front one and the one on the control arm. which do you need to replace.

stabliser links, just get a kit, 4 bushes each side.
if you go nolothane then remember not to do them tight, just enough to hold or they will split.

strut tops require the removal of the strut so do them when you replace the strut.
there is a strut insert in most struts that you can change.

You WILL need a wheel alignment when you do this.

ps strut tops have a left and a right. watch that when you replace them.

strut inserts are about $85 at mildly expensinve.

ill check out the engine mount and see what condition its in.

im not quite sure on the radius rod bushes, the rwc check just said they needed changing. should i just do both? do i have four bushes or just two?

The stabiliser link only has four bushes each side? so the 40 stabiliser link kit which includes 8 bushes is enough to do all of it?

ok so i dont need to replace my strut just the insert? is there any chance you could post up a link or a picture of the inserts so i know what to buy? or is just the front shock?

so the inserts are about 85, what should i expect to pay for strut tops?

thanks sorry about all the questions.

it depends on were you buy the bushes as to wether they come as a pair or each.
holden will sell you one bush at a time.
Most after market ones will come a set, ie 1 for each side. there are 2 different bushes for the arms so 2 sets.
1 pack of stabilisers are what you want.
a strut insert looks like a metal tube with a chrome rod coming out the top, with a thread on the end of it.
strut tops well shop around. $130 to about $300 a pair.

    alright thanks for the help.

so ill have to order two sets of radius bushes, two bushes each side, two sides, so four bushes.

now the stabiliser link bushes is that the same a a sway bar link?

    like this one?

also are nothyalane strut tops a good alternative? are they alot better that the standard rubber ones? theres a cheap set im looking at.

its just the struts im confused about.
is it true i can take my front struts out, empty out the oil and insert a gas shock?
and then re install into my car?

will this fix my leaking strut? i imagine the gas shocks will be a lot better handling wise than the oil ones.

also my steering well has two wires coming off the horn. a black which runs down the steering coloumn like its suppoused to and a white wire which is cut and not connected. now my horn isnt working. if i find the other end of this white wire and reconnect should this fix my problem?

    thanks

    what?

    1. take strut out
    2. replace old shock with new shock
    3. put strut back in

    you don't empty any oil...

yeah i have looked on ebay, no front shocks on there at the moment.

sorry about the confusion with the strut, somebody told me that original vn struts were filled with oil not a gas insert. and that when updating u can either take out the oil and change the seal and put new oil in or replace with a gas shock.

thanks though that thread is very helpful.

now i just need to buy some shocks. how much am i looking at for them?

nah thanks i got some lights, im having some trouble with them not fitting properly. ive tried a few sets now and they are all the same. like theres a gap at the top left of like a cm or two. i think it might be the actual car, like the metal panel the tail lights bolt on to. will have a play around again tomorrow.

ive done the head light on the right side which was buggered. picked up a vp rear garnish for it for free and a left hand tail light and loom also for free offf a mate. dont know wether or not to keep the old garnish (black) or new ill posty some photos.

i brought my new sway bar link rods and bushes, and some rear control arms.

my 2.5 inch rear muffler is badly rusted, so i grabbed a new 2.5 inch one of a local guy. not brand new but never been fitted. 45 bucks!

im mainly chasing strut tops now, i missed a cheap new set for 52 bucks on ebay the other day and a 2.5 inch cat which theres a company on ebay that has them for 185 bucks, is this any good?

just a question is there a way to adjust the bonnet release? at the moment u have to have someone else push down on the bonnet when u pull the lever.

tomorrow will invlolve trying to get these stupid tail lights to fit properly. not sure what im gonna do.
