I want to either stick with the buick and put a sc14 on it and fully rebuild it or put a 5 liter injected 304 v8, what do you reckon would be better suited for the car easyer to do, cheaper and the most effective differnce?

Cost = Sameish
Sound = 304
Easy to do = 304/SC14 about the same
Performance SC14 MAYBE or same
Strength = 304 x 10
Legal = 304
Illegal = SC14
304 would be the legal way to go, but if you want to put some 304s to shame get the sc14, if its boosted more, with the stock pulley it will be about the same as a 304, if you are running 5-6psi you would beat the majority 304s around because most arnt that fast, and people get them thinking they will chomp anything that they pull up next to, when its just stock and not much done to them, and some people just think that its a v8 and will take down any 6. dont get me wrong i like 304s but some of the drivers i have seen in my town think its the be all and end all type of way.
304 would be more reliable but if done right the sc14 will be ok.

hmm should i comment here lol
i had a sc14, then bought a v8 instead. agreing with everything greenfoam said. less EPA/defect issues with the 304, although the performance of the sc14 will require a few mods from the 304 to beat a proper setup sc14

Because adding a non factory boost setup to an engine means you need an engineers approval and then you need an emmisions test. To make it legal it's a 3-4 grand job (if you pass). Otherwise you will eventually be asked to remove it. All in all it's much smarter idea to run the best factory setup you can, in the case of the VN-VR that's the 304. The only other legal and sensible option is the RB30 turbo
