Hey guys.
1990 VQ statesman, 5ltr.
I left it to a mate of mine, and the car came back with bald tyres and no brakes, and no fluid in the MC container.
I've done a bit of searching but can't seem to find anyone with the exact same problem.
My pedal goes all the way to the floor and doesn't start to stop until the pedal is a few mm off the floor, my first guess was the master cylinder.
So, i went to the wreckers and got one, put it in, and still the exact same problem.
I've bled the brakes and checked all hoses etc. etc. but i'm stumped.
The booster is still pushing the plunger fine.
Any idea's?

new mates,mate
check your brake lines underneath the car for the leaks n see if he pinched the lines with vise grips to do burnouts then go round ur mates house with a cricket bat and get some cash off him
HORSEPOWER- Some is good, more is better and too much is just enough!!
When in doubt,USE FORCE!

yes. its generally retards who partipate in this practice. if they are stupid enough to put the vice grips on the solid tubing it usually tears same with vulcanised rubber tubing. i have nothing against doing burnouts but if you are gonna do it, do it properly and get a real line locker on a proper burnout car.

Ive checked lines. it doesn't need a line locker, it'l do burnouts anyway.
Yes i got some cash off him, thankfully, the bat wasn't neccecery.
Well, i just checked to see if the calipers were seized, and they move a little bit, so basically, theres only a little force getting to the calipers. the booster appears to push the plunger, but because i can't see it when the MC is on, it's a bit hard to tell.
Any idea's?
I'm stumped, and probably going to replace the booster tomorrow..
cheers.

i had similar problem on a vk commodore i had and it turned out the booster had failed. had a busted diaphram.
but i didnt have the fluid problem..
does the booster hold vacuum ? like if you pull the vacuum hose off a few minutes after turning the car off does it hiss ? or has it lost vacuum already ..
but if your fluid was empty it must be leaking somewhere so you better find the leak ... maybe he melted some calliper seals doing burnouts with the break on.
Yeh i don't think it'd anything to do with the calipers.
And the booster seems to work fine, when i take the master cylinder off, start the car and pump brake, the rod that pushed the master cylinder plunger works fine.
My only guess is i got a dodgy MC from the wreckers, i just took it for a drive, after putting in the master cylinder from the wreckers, the car now has absolutly no brakes.
And yeh, the booster's getting vaccum.
damnit.
cheers.

If he did a big enough stand-still burnout, there's a chance he's boiled the brake fluid, probably needs a flush. All it takes is a bit of contamination and sustained high temps. The result is fluid in your lines that can compress before motivating your brake calliper pistons. It probably wouldn't hurt to give the old girl a complete flush anyway.
This is my theory based on what you've tried so far, and the whole 'bald tyres' comment.
Edit: Unless you managed to prime your MC perfectly, and fluked not getting any air into the brake lines when you swapped the MC over, you'll need a brake bleed anyway.
Check out my VP right 'ere!
had this exact same problem when i took my car to the race track, i replaced EVERYTHING, the only thing i didn't change were the brake lines (expanded?) in the end the brakes failed while coming up to a round-about -- had to use hand brake to pull up, then gave car to the wreckers
