vp memcal problem

hi i have just installed one of them sv3800 chip for my vp v6 and my idle seems to be to high and the check engine light stays on, and when i put it in low and put my foot down the tranny starts to slip , could it be my dodgy installation or could it be a bad chip? got me buggered can someone give me advice?

yeh i might of not soldered the contacts properly, would that also effect the transmission been a vp there not electronic are they ?

nah it wont change the gearbox but what you described is limp mode and it will run like that but have no power. Just check all the contacts untill you get it right and it'll work

if the fan comes on when you turn the ignition on its definately limp home mode.like foam says 9/10 times its the soldering or someones put the chip round the wrong way or not reset the ecu

yeh its in limp mode fan comes on when i turn on the ignition , yeh its one of them ebay jobs thought i give it a go and see what there all about ill pull it out this arv and double check my soldering, lucky i bought it cheap.

if you get a properly tuned one it wont over fuel at all most good performance tunes will save fuel in the end from the increase in torque and horsepower unless you drive round at WOT all day

As Delco said above, get it properley tuned then, you will most likely have BETTER performance and not have gutloads of fuel dumped into your engine either.

Not slagging off all Egay "tuners" but the majority of them are crap. PM Greenfoam, Delcowizzard or Doctor Bob, they will sort you out.

yeh i been reading up on Delcowizzids tunes im thinkn of getting from him , im still not sure if the tune i bought is bad but i know now my install is a bit dodgy to say the least and yeh im convinced now of getting one i can just plug in instead of soldering..

More than likely mate, it's a shit tune. When i first got my old car (VP V6) about 4 years ago, i knew zero about tuning (still don't know HEAPS, but enough), bought a tune off Egay called an SV3800 tune.

Car ran rich, guzzled fuel and really didn't run that great for a tune. Then got Foamy to do a tune, noticed the different immediately. Fuel economy was HEAPS better, and the throttle response was fantastic. Could not have complained one bit about his tune.

Delcowizzard can do the same for you, haven't heard ONE bad thing about one of his tunes from anyone on this forum, all good things.

You won't be dissapointed. Most of those Egay tunes aren't properley done, Delco and Foamy's tunes have had time spent on them smoothing out the kinks.

if there is one thing that i can say about cheap porfamance is that there is no such thing dont tight ass
your way out of any thing you will pay for it in the long run
eg i got a new trany i got the wrong shifter brackets i moded them and now the trany is dead no 3-4
all because i didnt get the right gear

yeh so far the car has been good value for 800 bucks it ran pretty well before i stuffed around with the chip ,im sold on the idea of spending the extra getting a deceant one now.

I reckon I can name at least 3 guys on ebay that do good tunes tho (not including LS1 tuners) you forget I sell 95% of mine on ebay, it's by far the best way to sell something and all SV3800 tunes are straight copies of the factory HSV tunes, they use less fuel than the Holden version

yeh mate was money well spent , it arrived quicker than the one i got from ebay the other week and that was from the same state i live in , Yeh big difference now it feels like a new motor in it , i thought i was goin thru back tyres before i think ill be goin thru them alot quicker haha

delcowizzid,can you make me a vp v6 chip for increased performance as i have never tried an ebay one and don't want to after reading all thisand all i want is the car to run well and a lot harder if possible,cheers mate and get back to me with details please.
