whats (legally) the biggest rims im allowed to have, cause i've just found some really nice ones, but as far as i know, i can only get them in an 19x10 or a 19x9. am i allowed 19's??
I'm pretty sure the law down here in VIC is 2" over your tire placard... Not sure what the VN has, 14/15 or 15/16? But i don't think 19's are legal regardless, on your model. Someone else can confirm? And 9" or 10" wide rims?? Somehow i doubt that will fit a VN....
yeah just found some nice 18's, and you make em fit, get the guards rolled xD but where can i find my tire placard? i found somethin to do with my wheels in my engine bay, but couldnt really make sense of it. lol
As long as you run the correct profile tyre and one with the correct load rating, 19's are fine, as are 20's. I highly doubt you are going to fit a 9" or 10" wide rims under the vn in the rear without some serious work, oh and the fronts don't stand a chance.
No. Only SA maintains the 2" rule.
Everywhere else, you can fit as large a rim as you like provided the overall tyre diameter is within 15mm of the original diameter on your tyre placard. So bigger rim = smaller profile tyre, which is done anyway.
But as said, not gonna fit 9" rims at the front.
Depends on weather you are talking in width or dia. 1991 is right - the biggest dia you can have is with the ouside dia of the tyre being no more than 15mm larger than the largest tyre on your tyre placard. Width may be no more than 25mm wider than the greatest wheel width nominated on the tyre placard. This of course only relates to Vic and other states may be different.
Can we sticky this link???? http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...340/0/VSI8.pdf

..i have been told that with money, you can make any wheels fit in there. i think i'll get the 18x9 providing of course i can make them fit. cheers for the help guys, any info where i can get my guards rolled? i heard tire joints will get it done if i get them to fit the rims or something?
thats IS what they say, I posted this up a long time ago but nobody read it from back then. It does NOT state tyre placard unless I am reading a different section.
Sorry dude but WA stands by the same ruling. I bought my VC with 18's from NSW and went to get her re registered over here in WA, and they wouldn't let me pass thru because the rims were too big. We have the same ruling here, 2' over your standard sized rim that the car originally came out with from factory only. If you want to go bigger, you gotta get it engineered.
I have 18s on my 1989 VN sedan, and they sit really nice. ( i think they originally came out of the factory with 17s???? So you can legally go up to a 19 comfortably with no problems.
No guard rolling required either and i sit on SSL springs and shockies aswell.
The bigest you can go to is a 19' before you have to start playing around with suspension and needing to roll your guards.
Check out your local rules and regs for where you're at first before spending the money and being penalised for it.

okay this is kinda gettin off topic, and my question hasnt been answered. whats the go with getting guards rolled? price etc?? cheers
guar rolling is when the lip is rolled to give that bit of extra clearance, last time I checked a mobile guy was doing it for $25 per guard, its quick as too.
ohkay then, i got told by someone who used to work in a panel shop today (dunno if this is right or wrong.. hes a bit of a toss) but he recons you just do some slits in a straight line in part of the guard with an angle grinder, and then push it in or somethin? makes sense.. but is that the "correct" way. if not, i wont do it. cheers![]()
Thats the correct way to chip the paint and give you an uneven job, its a pretty simple process, they clamp a special tool on on side and then slowly roll it to the other side, I'm pretty sure they heat it up a bit too. I would pay the cash and do it properly, unless he is willing to fix it for free. Of course some people bash them in with a mallet and get a decent job, I wouldn't do that either.

thats them. anyone else think they'll be sexy on the calais?
EDIT: k sweet. recon i could just get the guards rolled at a wheel joint? like while getting tires on the wheels
only allowed 2 inchs over the stock size
we discussed that earlier, heard that is only SA law?
k i looked up guard rolling today, doesnt look that difficult, autobarn here just got heat guns in, should i invest in one? but rolling my guards looked fairly simple according to what i found online..
this is a guard roller the best tool you could ever make or buy some places do rent them too.you can either use it too just roll the edge over on the guard or they will do fully sick 100mm wide flares with a bit of time and patience weve added some huge flaring to a couple of cars using one of these awesome tool
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
