i took my v6 out today, so i'm on the home straight to the v8 conversion. tomorrow i'm going to hit up ricerbarn/repco/whatever for the various fluids i'll need.
what brands do you guys recommend for fluids for a stock VS 304, 5 speed and alloy/aluminium radiator
i want to get a good oil and coolant, and also think it'd be good to change the t5 oil while it's out. i lost a bit of oil when i took the tailshaft off the diff pinion flange, i guess that means a top up of the diff oil.
i'm not hell cashed up at the moment so no royal purple oil
also the diff's coming out in a month or so for an lsd and gears to go in, i don't want to fill that with top shelf oil
Repco has some fluids on special for fathers day. Castrol LSX90 diff oil is one of them as is Penrite
how long has the v8 been sitting?
do you know it's history?
if a long time or not sure then use a cheaper high detergent oil to flush the engine before using penrite.
get a box oil that is limslip ok so you can use it for the diff aswell.
you will need a addative for the diff to.
many brands off coolant so just pic one.
I can't remember which one but there was a coolant that had a 1000 000km life
cool, some good info on the box/diff oil. engine came out of a a SS ute, not sure of the K's on it, think it sat for a month or so, it's got no oil in it now tho.
forgot to mention that until i get the gregories for a v8 i'm clueless about volumes needed to fill stuff like oils, coolant etc.
ive tried quite a few different oils for the engine and the one that i liked the best was penzoil gt perfomance, just make sure it is a 20/50 weight.
also with the gearbox its a bit of a mixed decision, you can go gearbox oil or auto fluid with lubrizol, i use the auto fluid with lubrizol and the box feels great and im pretty sure it was from vr onwards it was recommended in the books to use auto fluid with additive in the manual box's.
