    Default Starter Motor (VN)

    Hey guys,
Got my license a few days ago and have had a VN sitting around for ages (it's nice though haha), and it needs a new starter motor. Was just wondering what the price is for one of those these days - is there a good site any of you know of that stock commodore parts and prices for particular models such as the VN - there has to be one!

50 bucks is a decent price ... 80 for a top notch reconditioned one ...

course what you'd pay up around your area might be entirely different..
    just ring a few wreckers

oh and dont listen to the sandgroper .. he's got less posts than me! lol! j/k m8

$80 for a reco... whoa your autoparts store is cheap!

cost me $110 for an oldskool falcon one, and that was a changeover.

Beware of the wrecker for electrical parts... ive had some dodgy dizzy's and stuff b4.

yanno .. i have noticed that i find parts around my area are not that expensive

i just shake my head when i see a bloke pay $40 he should only pay $30 for ... either i'm just lucky, or parts prices across the country are just too varied

its unfair guys have to pay so much more stuff than others ....... and good point vpv6, i'd only buy a reco'd electrical item (alternator, starters, coils, dfi moduls etc) and then only if there was some kind of warranty...

Yea, you do have to be careful about the recod stuff. All of the gear ive had (electrical) was reconditioned by some croud.. "A.." something. I keep thinking ABC, but its like AEC or something like that. They give a 3 month exchange warranty with no questions asked. Ive had a reco alternator in a falc since 1994 and it only packed up last week.

Jeez ive had some crap from the wrecker. Points dizzys with bearings so shot that the points bounce every time, Hall effect dizzys with vanes that crash into the sensor, reluctor dizzys that generate 0.4v... need I go on! Funniest thing I ever bought was a jack handle. Payed $7... what a ripoff. I really needed it tho so I payed and never went back...

So if you can find a recon starter with some warranty, thats the way to go. If its gonna pack up it will within 3 months.

yea thats a decent price indeed .... theres actualy a few shops on Ebay selling starters ... and remember you don't necessarily have to ask for a VN starter motor, VN thru VX will go straight on .. its all the same bolts .. i havent seen a VY before so i couldn't tell you about that

lol a mint condition VN Manual Console surround cost my mate $25 .. but a mint VR one "identical" i might add tiny colour difference cost $40 ????

Thanks guys. That helps - i'll just make sure i don't get a dodgy one, from some equally dodgy wrecker! Didn't know you could bolt on the later model starter motors - maybe worth a try, surely they'd be more reliable as they were used less?

yea well a starter motor is a starter motor .. put whatever fits mate, if you've got big huge extractors you'll need a mini tacker of a strarter, same applies for a big block in a little bay ..

as long as its got the cranking amps .. your sweet, whatver you put in ..
