i wanna relocate the charcoal canister while my bay is empty, and i thought that since i was doing it, i should get rid of the metal line that runs along the rail in the bay.
my thought was to hacksaw it off just after it came out at the firewall, then use fuel hose (like it uses at the end where it joins) to run under the chassis rail to the charcoal canister's new location.
as long as i hose clamp it on at both ends, use proper fuel hose, and make sure it's held tight to the underside of the rail, is there any reason this would be a bad idea or illegal or anything?
what does the charcoal canister actually do?
it absorbs fuel vapour from the fuel tank and the lines run to the TB where the vapour mixes with the air and gets burnt.
they're counted as a pollution device, like Cats and whatever else. illegal to remove
think of it this way - by the time you have your bonnet up and are explaining where your charcoal canister is, the canary is already written- whether the modification is legal or not.
as far as EPA clearing it - I think it'd be a case of "if it works like it did before, it's fine"
ive seen them mounted in the rear wheel arch. try explain that one to a cop haha. legal but would look a bit strange. i eventually need to mount mine properly below the battery since my thermo fans get in the way of it

am i likely to catch fire and explode hacksawing slowly through the line, given it's hooked up to the tank
Maybe make sure you drain it first.... and maybe even disconnect both ends and fill it with water, before you saw.
