paradox and i did the inlet manifold gaskets on the weekend and it hasn't fixed the problem. starts fine and runs beautiful at a quarter or under on the temp gauge. when the car gets to about half on the gauge it loses power, starts sputtering and even making back fire like noises out the exhaust. car isn't running rough at idol but only when giving it a good dose of pedal. any ideas?

ecu could be getting an incorrect temp reading from the coolant sensor
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
it must be something temp related, what else could it be....

it could be something like a coil, head gasket, temp sensor, running lean for some reason ?
its not so bad that the car cant be driven but it is annoying and mabe it will get worse i dont know. i posted in another thread about losing power at operating temp. could the crank angle sensor be the problem and where do i find it... also where is the coolant sensor?

id would say a sensor problem of some kind maybe, the crank angle sensor is located behind the harmonic baloncer and has little fins that run through it(i think) does it bring up any codes???
no codes that i can see. what kind of job is it to replace a cas, and are the dear?

man its easyer than you think.basicliy from memory you take off the belt, harmo, i think it might be a reverse bolt pattten,u need a breaker bar to get it off, behind u will see a bracket looking thing.thats the cas. replace with the new one,i got mine for like 20 bucks ithink. any way just put it back in the same sequince that u took it off.do the harmo up as tight as u can then go to the nearest mechanics and get him to put the air gun on it to make sure its tight enough.
do you have a repair manual???
found a water leak just under the alloy hose neck next to the power steering reservoir, turns out i forgot to tighten a 3/8 bolt to the inlet manifold. mabe water was still getting by. ill have burl today and see if it changes....

Sounds like the Crank angle sensor. warm up the engine, then tip cold water over the sensor to cool it. if it improves the idle it's the sensor.
the problem is the car only loses power at take off when warm. when its idling it runs fine, dosent run rough

injectors maybe?
after i tightened the 3/8 bolt to the inlet manifold the engine seemed to run better. got just under half way into the temp gauge and the car mabe had 10% of the power loss still there, so im going to take it for a 40 min drive today and put some pedal to it. i think mabe the major loss is fixed and no i just need to do the injectors now. anywho ill post the results soon, thanks to all the posts....

its not the inlet manifold this time. the car is losing power even worse than before the gaskets were done. when i accelerate it seems like the engine starves for fuel, or is getting too much. its making a choking noise from the exhaust too and making like back firing noises. it does this even after the car sat for a few hours and the engine cools down. what should i do now....

I had a similar problem in my VR (I just posted about this in the VR/VS forum lol) The fuel pump in the tank was stuffed, had a mechanic change it over and he said that it was delivering just enough fuel for it to idle, but it wouldn't deliver more when the engine needed it and that was why it would be starved for fuel and splutter and die.
Might be something to consider looking at, though it has nothing to do with the temp problem that might be associated with it.
i had my wife turn the key into the reds wile i was under the fuel tank to listen to the fuel pump. it didnt sound funny or anything, its normal loud wining noise and i had her start it too and all sounded normal. i called paradox (gordo) and he said his money was on the coil pack and to check the grounding lead from it as well. as it happens my mechanic friend stopped by my house 2 weeks ago and said oh by the way do you want this spare coil pack i took it off an engine from the wreckers that had 100k on the clock. i never turn down freebies EVER. good thing too because i swapped it out and now it runs like a top. crisis averted... thanks for all the advice guys. think im going to make a donation to this site.

My VP calias is having a similar problem... well sort of similar.
Starts fine and fells like its running ok, but you can be letting it idle for say, 1min, 2min, 30sec.... then all of a sudden, it just dies... go to start the car again, turns over, and nothing happens.
On top of the engine you can hear what sounds like air? going thru the fuel lines maybe? Could that mean fuel pump is stuffed/clogged maybe?
Have got another VP of spare parts, just wondering where to start.
Had it dyno'd recently, only got 73kw at the wheels... sounds a tad under powered too... might have other issues, but just want to get it to run longer than a few minutes first.
We were able to get 2 runs out of it on the dyno, just had to keep the throttle down.
