hi all, had my level 3 for a while now, all warning chimes had been working quite fine until after i did the blue l.e.d conversion for the lcd's. Hooked it all back up the same but now when i drive the tone for when the hand brake is on while moving chimes away, even though the hand brake is off, so went back and took out all the l.e.d from out the four spots put it back in and still makes the chime. i havent wrecked anything on the pcb or cant see anything black spots or blow outs or anything. so for the moment i have taken out the buzzer so i can drive in peace, but would like to know if anyone does know why this is happening. all globes work the over speed chime worked while this was happening.
pretty much the chime for hand brake will go as soon as take off then every 2-3 mins after that. the plastic pcb on the outside is all fine. i just dont know what has gone wrong.
sounds like a component, pcb or ribbon has copped a knock/scratch and has failed. you can try and trouble shoot it, check all the fittings are good, and even consider replacing your cluster (again?) but at the end of the day, sounds like you may have damaged it during strip or assemble stage. The LED's will not have any effect on the buzzer.
Anyone else run into this or have a better solution?
ok...the only thing that i think it could possibly be is that plastic strip that goes into that trip computer pcb....when i was trying to get it out i was using needle nose pliars and slipped a bit and slight crack in the plastic has occured but the rest seems fine.
seeing as when that strip isnt plugged in and cluster is all hooked up the buzzer wont work and "distance till empty" had no reading and the over speed didnt work either. so yes im thinking im gunna have to somehow remove the plstic off that strip and pins and see if i broke a pin? any ideas on how to reve the plastic bit?
Have you checked the easy bit and looked at the handbrake switch? Maybe coincidence that it plays up at the same time as you did your dash.

where abouts are u. worst comes to worse some people on here may have a spare pcb.... hmm i have a v6 one lying around.... and a v8 one with no buzzer attachment (series 1)... 88greenvn maybe another avenue
This issue has appeared on a few VR/VS L3 upgrades.
I'm currently looking at the wiring diagrams to find what the problem is. Nothing has shown up as yet - but it looks like it's the handbrake circuit some place and how it deals with a L3 cluster.
The looms (L2 & L3) look to be the same - so no easy fix at this point.
For now - I'd remove the buzzer

yeah i have taken out the buzzer for the mean while. when i first put it in, it was all working quite fine, its only when i put the l.e.d's in, more to the point, that plastic slip on the outside pcb that slides into the trip computer area, i was trying to take it out carfully and slipped slighty and heard a crack....plastic is a tad cracked but still in one piece, but could have possibly cracked the pin inside the plastic.
if its not that, well then yeah i dont know, seeing as i have wrecked anything else
