As some might remember, i blew my diff a few weeks ago. the pinion bearing chat itself, and was just ratteling around the crown, which tore teath off and in turn, the drive home was very very, "BANG BANG BANG BANG" i know i shouldn't have driven it home, but i wasn't thinking.
Anyway, tonight i finished replacing the diff with 3.9's LSD.
The auto has a stage 3 shift kit in it yet nothing else done to the car (VQ stateo)
So, i drive it out of my back yard into the ally. drove off fine, then came out of the ally and as soon as it snapped second. poof.
Nothing, just revving.
Reverse still works fine, and when i put it into drive or third, i can't hear anything happen, yet when i go to second, you can very very feintly hear what sounds like gear teeth grinding, kinda the sound that you get when attempt to put a manual into gear with out a clutch, yet like i said, you can hardly hear it.
Then when you put it to first, you get a very small gear thud (as if it was engaging) and the car moves back a few millimetres.
I'm stumped, and i'm really hopeing that it doesn't have to be replaced. possibly repaired?
Cheers.

good luck mate, my bros car same thing , has reverse but bugga all else... was a complete swapout.. wasnt worth repairing.
wierd my mums old vr had drive going forward but no reverse all od a sudden one went to reverse just wouldnt go and when ya reved it it felt like clutch slip take it to a tranny shop or even better drop in a 5spd
no fluid? selector? clutch? auto tranys are ****ed up they can stop working from like an o 'ring or maybe you ****ed it while ya ate all those teeth off i dunno really call an auto trany shop on monday theyll know what it is
your auto is gone, open it up and have a laugh at all the metal filings in there, the only reason shift kits thud is because the pressure is raised and you don't have a stall high enough so there is a lot of pressure in the parts in gear changes. Stage 3 is full manual and way too much for everyday driving. Back the auto off when you get it rebuilt.
Ebay, ebay, ebay a whole new setup for yourself may cost far less than fixing it.Pull both motor and auto out, grab the parts you want from your old motor, fit them to the new(used)setup and slide the good setup straight in.....cheap way out.Make sure to test the motor before you buy it(hear it running or drive it).
You might also be lucky and get away with a servo and clutches but I would start saving the pennies.
Heres a tip, wait until this item on ebay ends 290342592130 and when it ends without a bid offer him a lot less for the setup.Just put that number in the search bar up the top.Tell him that its a big risk for anything over $500 as you are unable to hear it running and he will cave in as he needs the cash.
i can get ya a manual conversion for 800
Really? that sound's pretty good, that includes clutch and everything?
And gomez, i will be keeping an eye on that for sure.
Supposed to start my new job tomorrow
Don't know how the **** i'm going to get there, and being an apprentice with rent and food to pay for, it's nearly impossible to afford anything.
cheers guys.

Rent a bomb.....look them up and see how many burnouts you can do before returning it to them(lol).
yeah if you plan to do a manual conversion try and score a cheap vs with t5. mode it to fit and smoke your tyres.
yep pedal box, clutch, flywheel, gearbox, tailshaft, shifter, $800 if ya want it pm me
I just found a receipt in the glovie, and the guy i bought it off said it was replaced with a reco shiftkitted auto just under a year ago..
And on the docket, it states 2 year warranty !
So i prey they accept it, the owner before me treated the car well, he was middle aged and did a bit of towing, but i'm a little worried, that when i take the car in and they see a brand new spooled diff that they will tell me to piss off
And i'm still keen on that manual mate, i will let you know tomorrow![]()

Tonight driving home in my VN V6 Auto, I heard a 'bang' from underneath the car, and the engine revved hard. Immediately after the car would not change up 1st to 2nd as normal, but had to be revved to around 3500 and then it would change after a few moments. It had a funny odour too, (and it wasn't me). I came home and read up and had a play with resetting the kickdown cable, but when I tried to reverse out of the driveway, no workey anymore. No idea if it (R) worked straight after the auto played up. Am I up for a new Auto Tranny?
