Hi Guys,
Got a VP commodore V6. Had a noise coming that sounded like a stuffed bearing. Thought it was the drive-belt tensioner pulley/bearing. But after some investigation I'm sure its the Slip Ring end bearing in the alternator.
Sprayed some WD40 in the front of the alternator, turning it by hand (drive belt off), noise still there, sprayed some at the back openings of the alternator and the harsh sound has gone, just when you spin it occasionally you get a groaning sound from it. My guess - bearing on its way out. All charge readings from alternator are all good.
Thought I would just change over the bearings in the alternator as they are easy to pull apart. Called up everywhere for new bearings and no one knows which bearing (or doesn't want to tell me as they want me to buy a new or reco alternator).
Bearing places say they need me to bring it in so they can give me the right one, some places asked for a part number.
I cant find a part number or the specs on the bearings in the alternator anywhere, not in the manual I have and not on the net.
Anyone know a part number for this bearing or some specs so I can get the right one?
Thanks
i think its a 6202 or a 6203. ill check tomorrow at work and ill let you know
Thanks, that will be great.
Now I think it needs more than just the bearings changed. Coming home last night and the battery light came on. Guess its not charging as well as I thought it was. Starting to wonder whether its worth stuffing around with or just get a Reco one for around $140 including giving them my old one.
