    Default gearbox problems

    hey guys

just took the 5speed out due to clutch problems, some how i've cracked the clutch fork haha

i have a few little problems with 2nd gear
pops out as i'm coming off the clutch sometimes, mainly on gear down, but occasionally on gear up, while i've got it out wanna fix the problem, and just wondering where to start looking

    shifter?
    selector fork?
    synchro?

    cheers in advance

Possible the spring under the offset lever. (usually refer to the detent spring). Holden did upgrade these somewhere along the line.

This spring applies pressure to a ball which sits in a plate. This is what pretty much holds it in gear.

okay will check it out for sure, but wouldn't that be a problem for every gear rather than just one?

i would go with syncro's, mostlikely just worn out, they are a real easy box to rebuild,

Yeah Ive heard theyre easy to rebuild and wouldnt mind doing the syncros in my box, but where do you get parts in Aus? Few companies over in the states do T5 spares and upgrades but havnt found anyone over here yet. I reckon OEM parts from Holden would cost an arm and a leg.

i was thinkin synchro, but no noise from it, no crunchin, goes in as normal, just doesn't always stay there, thats why i'm thinkin the shift forks or detent spring/ball???

update - i've opened the shift housing, offset lever, detent ball and spring are all fine, the detent guide plate seems to have pitted on the bridge between neutral and 2nd, dunno if this is enough for it to pop out though

gonna go tomoro and see a gearbox specialist, also gonna get a brass bush for the shifter ball ;-)

    - this box was also reco'd around 12 months ago, and i don't give it a real hard time so thats why i'm hesitant at thinking it's the synchro

i just sold mine and this happened every millionth shift, but i was never sure if it was just that i was lazy shifting.
i told the guy i thought it was the detent spring or detent ball, i also heard it can be the lever just hitting the boot edge in the trans tunnel

didnt get the chance to get to a box shop today, really hopin that the detent plate is the problem and an easy fix, or even something simple like pow3rslave saying about it hitting on the boot edge which is somethin i will definately sus

just hard as the cars at my old mans so can't do everything i'd like when i'd like to do it

do you guys think the detent guide plate pitting on the bridge of 2nd and neutral would be enough to let it pop out every umpteenth down gear?

well, detent spring/ball appear to be fine, and detent plate is fine according to the blokes at the gearbox joint.

shift forks are okay, so starting to think it's a synchro

is it easy to get to?

and does anyone have an other suggestions?

    cheers

    problem found

it was the 1st/2nd gear sleeve, which the shift fork sits in and slides it between 1st/2nd, all the teeth in that were chewed out, so hopefully getting a new 1 on tuesday.

thanks for all your help guys

with the cutch fork, did you have a heavy duty or a v8 spec cutch kit, just wondering, not saying that your problem. i had the same problem with my vs v6 t5,but i had a v8 heavy duty exceedy cutch kit and i snapped the cutch fork, as for ya 2nd gear, mined had same problem too, i just put it down to snapping gears to quick, maybe its that rip shift that i had on it,but maybe not you,but the last owner of ur car, was a bit hard on the gear box, i just replaced mine with a t5 out of a vr ss, and shoved the v6 t5 in the shed......plus does anyone have a L67 for sale at all..

if anyone could make use of it,a vs v6 t5 with the 2nd synco that needs repair, and no bellhousing drop me a message on here, and make a offer... im not using it...
