without sounding like too much of a tightarse, i was wondering what the best way to add HP for under 500 bucks to my VN? not too mech/tech minded.
currently has 2.5 catback, pacemaker extractors on the way.
also has manual buick 3.8 in it, S1.
not trying to make a drag beast, just want to get a bit more kick outta the V6.
and is a pod filter a waste of time? CAI worth it?

CAI is way better than the pod, ive found that the pod sucks in to much hot air, remove the bell mouth out of the intake, go down to the wreckers and get a S pack memcal and clip it into your ecu (best mod you can do the old 6)

chuck a tune on it to get the best out of your mods.
ive been told that the mecals are a bit hit and miss. and is taking out the bellmouth something i can do myself?
and powerslave what is involved with getting a tune?

ok so i found one of the 560000 threads on removing the bellmouth. did you do it santoro and did it actually make a difference?

i removed bellmouth, noticed no difference apart from a shit idle. choice is urs. some people notice (or believe they notice) others dont.
C.A.I, KN Filter, Greenfoam tune(do a search) - those 3 will set u back about 220 bucks then you could look into diff gears but youd be pushin ur budget
try cai $65 from holden
home made hi flow filter as per the how to section, about $10 and a couple old filters.
foam tune $58
then stretech the budget just a little ang go high ratio rockers.
May just blow the budget.
maybe v8 throttle body about $50 give or take a bit.
I've done: CAI, Pod, Chrome Intake Pipe(no really hp gain but looks sweet lol), Greenfoam tune, Removed Belmouth, V8 Throttle Body, Pacemakers & Sports Exhaust.
ok ive got pacies on the way, have the exhaust. def look into a greenfoam tune, seems to be the way to go. CAI and v8 throttle body are pretty easy to organise, ill give them a go, and see how things go.
cheers.

Get your tune AFTER the throttle body, your car will probably idle funny after putting a V8 TB on.

nah the intake tube is bigger then the body anyway.
free flowing filter is on the list though.
u want more poke, install taller diff gears..
i cant believe this hasnt been mentioned at all.. this will get it off the line quicker, yes technically not a power mod, but will be better than a CAI or hi-flow air filter.
got a K&N panel filter already.trying to decide if it will be better off putting the air box back in with that, especially coming into warmer months, instead of the pod.

ephect you talking LSD? wat ratio? that would be good but a bit pricier and not as easy to come by in perth.

yes and no, u can install taller diff gears and for the time being leave it as a single pegger until u have the cash to purchase an LSD diff, then u can swap out the diff gears in that.
u can find taller gears under a nissan pintara which will fit ur diff.
also WTB - pacemaker extractors in perth. PM me if anyone has spares.

yes i did do it and there was a slight difference. I makes perfect sense to remove anything that restricts the air flow. Since then ive rebult the engine added a CAI, extractors, straight through 2.25" exhaust and this week got an S pack memcal out of a VP. Before i put the memcal in 0-100 was 8.6 seconds i timed it the day i put the s pack memcal in and i got 7.12
diff gears require a lot more care and knowledge to install correctly so is not for the beginner.
It doesn't restrict airflow, it's there for a reason, to EVENLY distribute air to all 6 cylinders. Taking it out LEANS OUT the 2 rear cylinders, that's about it.
Best thing to do with bellmouth's if you MUST remove them, is take it out, and modify the lower part of the bellmouth then put it back in.

here's my thread on the same topic.
Mod suggestions?
You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. This is your wake up call.
