Default Tranny starting to slip - VP 5Ltr

hey there guys, just wondering if you can give me any ideas on how to fix this problem, or prevent any further slippage??? Iv got me fingures crossed that i dont have to replace the tranny, but in the back of my mind i have thought it may be the case. Any suggestions much appreciated. Cheers

My trans started slipping, and eventually got worse and lost Drive and Over drive. Looked at getting an auto built, and it was cheaper to convert it to manual. Thats my advice. Much more fun too

yeh same here, was cheaper to convert to manual than getting a rebuild and i will never go back to auto either

I'll third that. $1000 converted it to manual, instead of a $1700 trans rebuild.

yeah but if the op is lazy like me, its easier to find a cheap auto (even if it hasnt had a rebuild but is still in good nic) cheap over an entire cheap manual conversion. then theres the clutch (whether its decent or not), radiator, tailshaft etc etc.. i love my manuals but its so much easier swapping an auto for an auto.

im waiting for mine to blow anytime soon. a mate is building me a new one (its a slow working build in progress) so hopefully itll be done before my current one goes.

manual conversion ended up being alot more easier and straight forward than i expected, and plus it is alot more fun to drive and a manual is also a nice bolt on power gain.

so really too many benefits imo

If they are aonly slipping from 1st-2nd under full power a coverte servo will delay the end of your gearbox for a few years at least

thanks for all the input guys. Just a quick qustion ... when you are talking figures around $1000, im guessing that is when ur doing all the work yourself??? I can do the basics on my car, but dont think id be up to doing a conversion on my own, even with a little help. Id prefer to get it done good an proper through someone else. But that will obviously cost me big dollars correct? :S

Cost me $1500 for the kit (plus 300ish for a new clutch) and 200 for a mate to do the conversion for me.

You can keep the auto radiator, you just plug the hole for the trans line. Both my cars have it plugged

LOL no, just the T5. You'd barely get a decent T56 box for 2k, let alone a whole manual conversion.

you guys are silly, if its starting to slip not much damage has been done and he can prevent any more from being done

What if its slipping 2nd-3rd under 3/4 throttle.... very minor slip too..?

So whats with these Corvette servo's. I just paid $1,750 to have my box rebuilt. Do these servos snap them in gear a bit harder to prevent slip or something??? Sorry for the noob questions but i know nothing about Corvette servo's.

    Cheers.......................Pete!
