Hi people's, just a quick question on my wheel arches, while im usually the only person in my vp my susspension is fine, but come the occasional day when i have to take the rest of the family (wife and 2 kiddies) and a bit of luggage i'm lucky to get a km down the road with my tyres intact, and worry free of them bursting. so the question is... is it my shocks?, Springs? do my arches need rolling? any comments will be appreciated exept for 1's that let me know how UNmachanicly minded i am..
cheers!
I love the pu$$ythats why i drive a Holden
You don't roll your arches, you roll your guards, are your tyres rubbing in the arches, on the shocks or on the guard? Has your car been lowered? Any unusual noises from the suspension? How big are your wheels?

Sure its not the inside edges of the rear wheels scraping the inner guard? My VP Berlina did this, as when loaded up the rear wheels would deflect inwards heaps, and scuff the inner guards.
Basically- when you load her up, do the rear wheels angle inwards (at the top of the wheels). If so, its IRS, and this is whats happening. Stiffer springs will fix this, although there may be some form of camber kit to stop them angling quite so much at the same spring travel, not 100% sure for the early girls...
Hi there, I have a VX 2001 SS - Sedan, on 18" and is lowered (all existing before camber kit - with no problems) then i got the camber kit done by Holden about a month ago (due to excessive trye wear - the usual camber problem).
The problem is 2 days ago I drove about 400km with no passenagers and slight scrap at bumps nothing to major, but on return trip with passenagers (3 kids) - noticed servere scraping when dips or bumps in the road coming from the left rear (wheel scraping on guard i think). So got the shocks replaced (by NRMA) - thinking that may of been the source of the problem....
But surprise surprise - with the same passenagers (3kids) the scraping noise came back still only occurring on the left side and onlyat dips/bumps.
In brief:- no tyre wear, the rims i have had on the same car for like 3 years without problems......HELP thinking camber kit might be stuffed????
Any one with ideas - all the help is appreciated......
if it only happens under load - panhard rod?
I had the same issue in VP and it was cause my panhard rod ####ed out. I also had broken uncaptured springs which didn't help...
Hey mate, I think your rear springs and shockers are worn out like most vn-vp's
Jack up the rear and take a wheel off and check up inside were the wheel travels and see if the tire has been rubbing up against the body, my vp done this also, turned out to be a combination of worn out suspension and a fully loaded car, cheers
what car are you talking about and what wheels???
Im gonna asume you have a VP senator which is surpost to have 17x8 inch wheels with a 30p offset so if your running any wheels other then VP or VQ IRS they will have 48p offset; therefore any 8 inch wide wheel generaly 17inch wheels and larger in diametre will rub on the inside of your gaurds. so put the standards wheels back on it and if there stil a problem try a camber kit but this shouldn't be needed.
for the future post more information about your car or even a picture would help.
Dad's old VP senator king super lows front and king ultra lows rear (SSSL) which never scrubbed

Just noticed this thread is over 12 months old I think he woulda sorted out the problem by now mate.
try looking in the VT-VX threads or go to a different mechanic. A camber kit is just a bolt n rubber they should last well over 10 years' something else is wrong with your back end. crack diff cradle and bent/crack parts in the rear
I had a VP with a similar problem turned out the off set was wrong on the wheels what are yer shocks like man?
