Yes you can do either the RB30 or 25 without an engineers, Luke style, he uses the VL crossmember, pretty much everything bolts right up since the VN was designed around the RB anyway. It's best to get the engine number changed at the rego office _before_ you add turbos coolers and superchargers tho . That's how Luke had it all planed and it all went down without a problem

Yeah he must be approaching 600 HP from that engine and alot more torque than an engine of that power should be making down low, I can remember when that was huge power in a race car but it's still not enough for him on the street (insane)

To get a basic RB30 in a VN and turbo it is very cheap (under 2 grand). Of course building a reliable 600hp motor is not cheap, but that car is a pretty extreme case not everyone (almost no one) can do that kind of work. The basic RB30 turbo into VN is a much better idea that doing work to a V6 and probably even better go fast per dollar than putting a 5 litre in

yeh evryone should read lukes vn its awsome
thinkin maybe while me engine is out i might stich weld me fire wall a bit aswell just to save the pain of doin later on cant believe its only glued in lol reminds me of workin/converting hummers and chev utes n american cars in general u have to cut out the right hand floor n chuck a fiberglass insert in to make it deep enough to get the brake pedle to no hit the floor!!!!!!!
and dodge ram utes have the floor and half the fire wall cut out n replaced with a fiberglass panel i mean its reinforced but shit still

i think mr engineer would disagree about a RB25DET, anything over %10 power increase requires a engineers,

thus all fast cars need a engineers, do it anyway... be original and drop a 2jz in it

lots that has to be done, lukes car isnt a VN, it just looks like one. its soo far from factory its not funny.

10% increase over the most powerfull factory engine, The Group A was putting out WAY more power and torque than the RB25, even the stocker 5L was within 10% on power and much more torque. All RB's can go in without engineers. My friend completed his RB into VR in about 5 days from start to finish

Each state is a bit different but for Victoria no, you will need to check out the rules for S.A

Yes a complete VL will have everything you need, you will just need to hook up a few wires for ignition etc

I thought it was simply that if the car never came from the factory with the proposed engine, you need an engineering certification for it.

Easiest way in my mind is just to get a nice VL for a VL engine...

this sounds really good i have been thinking about a conversion for my vr stato so if i put a rb30 into my vr and turboed it is that the most cost effective way to get big power?
for example if i want to get a rb30 motor and a turbo plus all the other stuff needed(intercooler etc) how much would that cost? note that i want a manual gearbox too

It's the cheapest way to get big power yes. Other option would be an American motor that passed the same emmisions (all American motors past about 1980 do). I haven't heard of anyone using that law recently! but that's how you can get a Chev into a HJ-HZ. Since it's passed the same test and bolts in. In theory you could put an Imported Buick turbo V6 into a VN-VR without an engineers but you would want to have some documents printed out when you went for rego (but it is within the stated laws in Victoria)
