ok i have to put a new timing chain in soon as its just abut over the 100000ks mark but coz iam taking half the motor apart iam thinking y not kill 2 birds at onces so i wanna put in a worked cam but i wanna know if i need to change anything once i put the worked cam in like the rods the springs ect ect
it costs alot to buy a new cam blank, you might not even be able to get one for a series 1 but if you just take your cam into Wade or your local cam grinder and have them regrind your you will be fine and nope you wont need to change anything
If the VN engine came with a build date of BEFORE July 1989 then (unless someone's changed it before) it has the original timing chain, which typically became noisy like a rusty bicycle chain.
In my experience it's just the noise that is the problem. The chain won't cause any other issues.
In July Holden changed the timing chain to one that shouldn't become so noisy with age.
If you actually meant VP Series 1 (not VN Series 1) then disregard what I said above...
Opps I didn't read that straight: )
well that sucks lol well i have a s 1 vp motor just seating doin nothing so looks like i will have to take ut the cam from that one and see if i can find someone to regrind it for me this is y i love working on cars nothing is easy lol
nah its the Vn cam that will be hard to find! I made an error the vp ones will be everywhere in the wreckers etc, then get a regrind on the spare
