Default Typical 5ltr - pissing out oil.

for the past few weeks, my VQ has been dripping a tiny bit of oil on my driveway, didn't bother me too much (stupid) and for two days now, it's constantly dripping when turned on, it's coated everything under the car in oil and it's coming out almost in a stream.
a bit was coming out of the dipstick, so i just duck taped the dipstick in, but it's also coming from what appears to be a black dish shaped housing, which i think houses the flywheel? in between the tranny and the motor.

being a bit of an info leecher here, but i've never worked on a 5ltr before so i'm a tad clueless :|

    Cheers.

You dont need to remove the AC, just lay it all to the side when you take the engine out

The seal itself is **** all, it's the labour that puts the hole in peoples pockets. But if you are going to do it yourself, it's a nice cheap job.

I was planning on doing it myself.
I just spoke to a 3rd year mechanic, and he reckons it's somthing else, he didn't look at it, but he said with that ammount of oil coming out, it might be something else.
It's not the rocker covers, i know that fr sure, but i can't see where its coming from, because everything around the block is covered in oil.

lol if its a stream then wherever its leaking from is under pressure. the rear main would have to be non-existant for it to stream oil. dont know a great deal about the 5L but could be something like the camshaft welch plug.

    Rocker cover gaskets?

I thought mine was the rear main and almost gave the go ahead for the mechanic to rip into the $600+ job until we both took a closer look.

I would give the motor a good degreasing and wait till it dries, then run for a short while and then have a gander.

I'll be pulling the motor this weekend, while i'm at it, i'm gonna do all welsh plugs, gaskets and seals.

Have you tried tightening the bolts on the sump? not super tight, but i just put a new engine in my VQ and it was leaking as you described, turns out the sump bolts needed a re-torque. Problem solved

check crank case ventilator... could be blocked and engine is building up pressure which would push pressure out of the dipstick aswell
