I was looking at using a carby cleaner myself, but am a little unsure as to the correct procedure. Any tips? Also i know this may sound silly 89vn, but are you sure you connected all of the spark plug leads properly? I believe a bad connection can make the engine run roughly.

definitly remove the TB and clean it. carb cleaner works well for this. just make sure you don't get it into the TPS (sensor on the end of the TB shaft). best to remove the IAC motor from the TB and clean all that out also.

VN's aren't the smoothest idling engines to begin with.

if you have a POD filter. make a shield for it to block of the hot air in the engine bay. if you don't want to then better of fitting the standard airbox and CAI. don't use the holden super6 CAI it's crap in my opinion.

other things to look at. service the engine. oil (put a oil flush through first) , oil filter, fuel filter. run some injector cleaner in a tank of gas.

rough running can be caused by muliple issues so you need to narrow it down a bit

Does it misfire or does it just idle rough? Could be injectors, could be the coil pack or a number of other things as pointed out by immortality. Maybe try a compression test.

if you removed the TB have a look at the vac line running from the TB to the MAP sensor. if this is hard/cracked replace it. may have a leak giving a bad signal to the MAP sensor
