my mate vn lost 3rd and 4th gear

hi just a lil help, my mates vn 3.8 v6 lost gears 3 and 4, its an automatic, ive read heaps of forums over the net, and alot say that is the solinoide for gearchange 3 and 4 (there are 2 lots of soloinodes, one for gearchange 1-2, and one for gearchange 3-4)

now others have said that its the band that goes around the drum that your clutches are in

others say to change the oil and filters

any help? any one had this problem? the car was not being flogged at all, as its a gutless bad name to holden vn haha

but yea can any one please help me with this?

I got news for your mate and its all bad if the gears went with no warning then it would most likely need a rebuild which cost me $1500 for one car or you could get a secont hand box from the werckers which cost me $180 and me and a mate fitted ourselves.

i got another one from a wreckers, fitted it all myself, and got a bonus shift kit with it
