hey guys
i have a speedway car that i have a vn v6 motor in it runs on methanol. we have after market methanol injectors in it. we have remapped the memcal to rev to 6000rpm and taken the oxygen sesnor and knock sensor out of the computer and motor. i have just had a motor rebuilt i have put it in the car and it starts and idals great open thr throttle its good open the throttle a little bit more and then it goes into a stage where it starts to miss then if u go past that it is great. i have changed 4 different computers, 4 sets of plugs,2 sets of leads. i have changed every electronic sensor, the wireing has been changed, the coil packs and the modular i have even put a earth stap on the coil packs, i have changed 4 sets of injectors, i have changed fuel pressure regs, alternators, batterys, fuel pumps, i have done the thest with the paper clip in the aldl plug and the engine light and it comes up with 12 so it says all the electrics are good. i have tryed it back on petrol an still does it. i am ment to be racing this saturday and its a big race so if any one could please help me with any info it would be greatly appreciated. i have spent big dollars on this motor and been on the dyno for 4 days and had no problems on there at all but put in the car and we have problems.
maybe its an area that wasnt tuned on the dyno due to it never being in that area under load on the dyno its gonna on and off the throttle most of the time you probably wont even notice it

Agreed with delcowizzid. Probably a load point where it wasnt tunned.
Is that one of those NOS sprintcars? They are pretty cool. Go to the speedway a fair bit and have seen them a few times. Where are you racing this weekend?

replace all the elecs then by a good upgrade chip one that has mutiple in and outputs and runs with all the origanl elecs
they usally can be tuned driveing by a laptop
then put six o2 sencers in just near the ports and a extra injecta just behind the throttle body
the knock sencers are vital for pinging
ey ey ey settle down now no need for that language!
thanks guys thought id give ya a heads up with the new rules and stuff you dont want to get thrown out of a very helpful site now do we!
do you want me to post a 100 page post mate i can go on and on about custom chips
Look it's probably a long winded way of finding out whats going on, but I would probably put the o2 sensor back in and keep an eye on the mixture.
With the o2 sensor out of the engine it's going to be stuck in open loop mode meaning it's always going to be running rich....very rich! Bring it back into closed loop mode and it will start running closer to stoich. Definetly leave the knock sensor out. If it wants to detonate then let it happen! You don't need that thing knocking 4 degrees off of the timing everytime it hears a little bang! lol
But the o2 Sensor is really really important.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
definetly only need one though....six? and do what with six o2 sensors?!

its dyno tuned theres no need for an O2 sensor at all if its had all the flags turned off for it and has been tuned to suit it wont be rich at all should be smack onknock sensors are good for keeping it alive especially when in a circuit environment where it may get hot and decide to ping due to not being tuned at the temp range it is at at the track its hard to simulate all conditions on a dyno and is a good failsafe for when you run low on fuel or suffer fuel surge as well. ide be test driving it at wot for a race meet too see if the effected area actually causes any dramas

you need at least one o2 sencer six makes custom tuning better
some late model commys have 4 o2 sencors
Yeah one before the cat and one after. This is to monitor what the cat is doing. There is four because there are two cats.

6 o2 sensors wont make any difference what so ever being that you can only globally tune fuel for all cylinders at once you cant trim each cylinder indevidually.the cost alone of 6 wideband sensors at 120 each plus 6 wideband controllers at $300 odd seems pointless when they cant even be put too good use.we didnt even get o2 sensors here due to leaded fuel and our cars run sweet as they arnt needed especially when running a circuit car which is at full throttle all day where the o2 sensors arnt even being used at all by the ecu

no if you have one it is a bit delayed cuz the com has to calculate the time it takes the exaust to get down the pipe
if the sencers are after the port it can tell the injector exatly how much fule isent getting burnt
useing multi o2 sencors needs a multi input output computer
you should leave the tuning to the people that do it all day every day without 6 O2 sensors
