    Default Modified CAI for 5ltr

While surfing through the threads on here I have noticed a common thread that keeps popping up. Other than the good ol exhaust question lol (oh and by the way can people stop typing in zorst or what ever the hell) there seems to be a lot of threads regarding CAI's. What is the best? cai from otr, 2 hole mod throught the bottom of box or bring in cold air from behind the light!
So I decided to have a go myself.
What I have finished so far is 2 air box's merged together with open ends for the front box (which is a perfect fit over the front light after a few mods. thank god for dremal lol) and obviously one open end with the other box. As the V8 already had the otr intake I thought to incorperate this as well, couldn't really hurt.
I have not made up a lid for the front section as of yet (wich will be this weekend)and still have to paint it to make it look to make it look like one peice, but thought I would post up pics up to this stage.
Forgive me for the long winded blurb lol.
    Will update when finished.

Looking good their sort of the f6 typhoon style intake, but you would have to think all that air getting rammed in there by the cai might get pushed out by the front intake maybe?

yeah I did think of that but with the induction from the motor it should draw in from both enteries.

yeah true good! look forward to seeing the progress. it would've been great to have a before and after chart on the rollers hey,
    But that'll be costly lol.

You've done some nice work there, but I'm inclined to say that your car will draw air in almost exclusively from the engine bay. The air will choose the path of least resistance, and the CAI will see almost no action. There isn't any "forced air" behind the bonnet - it's almost a tight seal, so there's no positive pressure coming into the CAI snout.

You should consider running a single pipe down to the front bumper

The will be no opening in the engine bay for it to draw air in. There will be a lid over the top of the front section. As for the forced air behind the bonnet, I just thought I would leave that in as it was already there.
Another thought I had was that as the velocty of the air being forced in from behind the light flowing across the opening of the CAI it should creat a vaccum in turn adding a bit of extra induction. I dont know how much vaccum would be created as it is a reasonably large opening.
Thats my thoery anyways lol. I will believe it if I keep thinking it lol.

I am probably way of the mark with this one and may well get shot down by many of you lol.
But if you do this mod can you not get a defect for it as you weaken the structure of the car by cutting a 4 inch hole??
I just heard of this a few years ago thats all.

probably the best cold air intake's you can get for a 5.0l would be the original HSV intake- the one with the big hsv logo on it that cuts a hole through where the regular airbox is to underneath the car and after that the second type HSV made for VN/VP- the intake with sv on it and which has the large snout at the front of it- they work better than the VR/VS OTR type intakes IMO

you need to run a pipe to the front bumper the wheel arch is a low pressure area and actually sucks air away from the airbox when you just run the hole straight down out into the guard

    I agree with delcowizzid.
If you run a stream of air over an inlet it creates a vaccum and in turn would be starving the engine.
I should be finished my cai by saturday night. I will post up the finished product.
