Hey All,
Hey guys I have a VP V6 that I have put back to standard with a standard ecu. I have a wideband ecu installed and most of the time the afrs are good, 14.7 idling when stationary, low 12s under WOT and 14.0 when in drive but stationary. Although when cruising at light throttle from say 60-110km/h its in the 10s!!! Thats obviously way too rich.
It still has a few things left on it like a TCE stall converter, 1.8 YT roller rockers, stiffer valve springs and 3.45 lsd.
I only got 280km from 42 litres of fuel.
My understanding was the Oxygen sensor works (closed loop) when idling and under light throttle. Is it in closed loop only when in neutral or park? Should it be in closed loop when idling stationary in Drive?
No wonder I get better fuel economy when I drive it hard because it actually leans out the afrs when I put my foot down!
Any ideas??
did i read on the other forum you run simulated narrowband off the wideband controller ide be inclined to slap a second bung in and a stock O2 sensor as well as the wideband to monitor

Yeah the wideband setup simulates a narrowband signal for the ecu. I dont really want to go the expense of running a second O2 sensor.
I really dont think its the problem as it worked fine on my custom tune.
The O2 sensor works fine when idling in neutral or park, you can see it fluctuate around 14.7 so its obviously working ok. There are no oxygen sensor error codes either.
(On a separate note, is it possible to get lean cruise added to a standard VP V6 chip? I have sent you a pm)
i replied to your email earlier todaymaybe you didnt get it vp doesnt have lean cruise VR tunes do but they take a lot of work too setup to run right.even without lean cruise 7-10L/100km on the highway is possible when tuned right.ive never had my vp idle in closed loop allways idles at around 13:1
most do

Thanks mate. Ok cool, so they dont idle in Drive in closed loop. How about in Park and Neutral while idling?
i think anything under around 5kmh will be in open loop depending on what codebase your running. been a while since ive done any logging LOL

strange, when mines idling in park and neutral it really looks like its in closed loop as it oscillates around 14.7. It could be open loop still and thats how the factory tune is.
i will do some playing around with the winaldl software and see if it has a flag for closed loop.
very interested in the tune that gets 7L/100km!
im winaldl mine isles round 890mv most of them do the same.what tune are you running now

100% stocker VP V6.
They should be in closed loop once warmed up and running anywhere on the F60 map that is "14.7" anywhere those numbers are not 14.7 it will be in open loop. 10:1=somethings wrong either with your sensor or the car. If you want to make a tune that gets 7L/100 on the highway easily, you Just change the F60 map to be in open loop by moving it from 14.7 to say.... well start at 16.5:1 and see how that looks on your wideband. Just keep putting it up leaner and leaner untill your on 17:1-17.5:1 on the wideband while cruising
Just thinking about it, my ecu doesnt know what gear i am in anyway!
How do I edit the tune? Do you guys sell a few economy tunes for em?
should know if you are in park/neutral or drive off the gearlever unless you dont have it hooked up

Usually do a tune like that if I'm asked if not then no (because it will be slightly more doughy when cruising) but if someones got a junker old V6 to drive to work and doesn't want to spend money on it then that's the kind of guy when you will lean it right up. To edit that tune you will need to download tunerpro and the definition file for the VP
I had another look via winaldl and there is an oxygen sensor error code!!
I was looking at the oxygen sensor output particularly and the ecu thought it was oscillating around a RAW value of 100 and a voltage of 0.440V. But the wideband was saying it was ~12.5. Therefore it looks as if theres an inconsistency as that voltage should be ~14.7.
Looks like something is going wrong simulating the narrowband signal that it sends to the ecu.
ive never been a fan of narrowband simulation allways prefer to run 2 sensors

ok so you think i should get a second bun installed and run both separately. hmmm
i would a bung is only 5 bucks sensor isnt a great deal 60 bucks max and will keep the ecu a lot more happy I reckon.

ok guys finally got the second bung welded on. now I am running them separately, the wideband says its cruising around 14.0. Which is obviously a lot better. There are no oxygen sensor codes.
But shouldnt it be crusing around 14.7 not 14.0?
its probably dead on maybe the wideband needs calibrating thery normally hover around 14-15 ish mine never sits steady on 14.7
