Default 3.8 V6 into CF Bedford Van

    Hi

I've joined this forum to ask a couple of questions if I may.

I am in the process of midmounting a 3.8 V6 out of a VN into my CF Bedford van. The engine is coming from a VN donor car I have purchased. I have acquired a 'dummy' engine and trans to help me with the fitting before I remove the engine from the car. This is so i can remove the heads and covers and weld and grind around it without worrying about damaging the good engine.

Now the donor engine I have noticed that the dipstick comes out of the drivers side of the sump whereas the dummy engine has the dipstick in the front of the sump over towards the passenger side. I would prefer the dipstick to be front mounted so would like to swap the sumps over. Is there any issue with this like the oil pickup in a different place because of different baffling etc or no issue at all?

My second question relates to extractors. Do the different models of extractors extend out from the exhaust ports the same distance as the standard cast exhaust manifold or extend a bit furthur? Do you know if some models sit closer to the block than others or do they all pretty much follow the same route as the original exhaust system?

    Many thanks for your time.

Oh, and another question. Looking under the car I can't see the transmission selector without getting the car up on a hoist. Which position is the selector in 'Park'? All the way forward or all the way back? Thanks.

sump will be a direct swap .extractors most will fit as they are tucked in pretty tight on a commodore to make them fit will just depend on the crossmember wether you can fit longtube pacemakers or if you need to stay shorty style ones.gearlever on the box is full back for park
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable

Thanks very much for the quick response. I've used the original VN crossmember so I imagine I could use either type of extractors.

Thanks. Here's a couple of the external mods so far. These were back when it had a mid mounted 186.

Just as well I'm building it for me and not you then I suppose. ;-)

Considering it was written off face-first into a large road working truck I think it came back rather well.
