Hey guys
Now today i noticed when i was driving my brothers vs that its powersteering was so much more liter then mine
Is it normal for a vp to have really heavy power steering or is it just my car
feels like a dont have powersteering at all n i have fluid in it, theres no leaks or anything
plz help
Depends on how heavy but it could need a simple power steering flush,it could also need a wheel alignment and maybe it could even be the steering rack itself. If its heavy az then try the simple approach first, check your fluid colour and if its yuk and brown then flush,if it is foamy flush....pays to flush anyway every now and then.Camber wear is another issue i guess could be looked at.
CAR ,Y U NO FIX YOURSELF

CAR ,Y U NO FIX YOURSELF
What kind of VS is your brother cars, cuz calais statesman have speed sensor on there one and they are alot lighter to turn than non sensor one
NEVER LATE IN A 355ci
Or it could just be that the VS is newer and your power steering is worn out.
From memory the pump on VR/VS had greater pressure, which made it easier to steer.
also VR/VS have different front suspension setup
- different sort of wheel bearings
- different camber/castor
- different front wish bones and struts.
on VN, VP, VQ - they are a bit firmer, but if it is hard when you are parking etc, then your rack will be excessively worn, but a flush will help, and it's cheaper intially to test.
hope this helps
go get a wheel alignment before your flush, you may be surprised, pretty much every 2nd hand car i've owned has had either hard or too light steering all been fixed by a simple wheel alignment, i'm not sure what part of the alignment they fix but it makes a world of difference and its not noticeable on tyre wear either.
My VP has a fairly new rack and it's light pretty much the same as my brothers VS V8 exec with 80,000ks on it. You can't really tell any difference between them
when it's really hard at slow speeds e.g. parking. means the worm drive inside it is not getting enough power steering fluid, so it is getting low pressure.
to flush it (this is what I do)
- you can take of the return pipe and plub into a bucket,
- block where it attaches on the fluid bowl.
- add new power steering / trans fluid
- get a mate to turn the steering from left to right (obviously engine on). full lock both ways.
- you should then see fluid rush out the return pipe that is in the bucket.
- keep adding new fluid till you get a clean stream.
- you can then add an additive to help.
- reconnect return pipe.
test if it frees up, solved, if it still plays up, you can get a wheel alignment, but most likely it's the rack.
.
I don't know if there is a how to on doing the flush, so guys feel free to link us up if there is.
Calais and Statemans have power steering assit so it maybe fitted to the vechical with the lighter steering
my power steering used to be really soft, i had to have the pump changed for RWC, now it's pretty stiff... definitely much harder than other cars i drive (mums lantra etc). i hated it at first but now i kind of like the harder steering.
stretch the spring in the pressure valve on the pump to crank the pressure up.
it is meant to increase the assit when you do that.
mine was probably the worse powersteering ever known to man. nearly cause accidents (to myself) and never went to a shoping centre coz it felt retarded trying to park..
well the fix for me was. fully drain the oil like the guys said, i changed my power steering pump too!
