My 1989 vn's engine after 400,000 has died-put a changeover in but serious limitations-want it to go like the clappers-need full rebuild with high performance parts-no idea about cost of parts etc would like a list as a starter-and then get someone else to to the parts and the rebuild-which i would like to be lpg gas ready-it has a 125 litre long range tank-too expensive to ill up. Any advice especially the list of parts gives me a starting point many thanks jessie
i saw a thread on this exact same thing the other day. it's been answered a million times, with the same result every time.
all i am going to say is this: buy a 304 and chuck that in instead.
edit: that other thread was posted by you.
Vn sv-enhanced 1989
see that scouser king dude? well i don't like ripping on people, but he spent a ****load of money on a worked v6. i'm talking, $7k minimum, maybe around the $10k mark even. his motor would have been about as fast as a 304 with very little work done to it (i'm talking a $1500 engine with $1000 put into it). his motor then proceeded to shit itself, leaving him with NOTHING.
it is not worth the trouble. in fact i wouldn't even rebuild a v6 - just grab another one. aren't they like $300?
edit2:
here's a bit more information
motor: Holden V6 Long Engine VN-VR 200 kw
source: http://www.spencerraceengines.com/SR..._PACKAGES.html
power: 200kw
cost:$6590.00
motor: standard 304
source: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Holden-304-V8...item45ee4bf992
power:180-190kw with tune
cost: $1,130.00
you'll need other bits for the v8 conversion like kframe, suspension etc, but i mean you'll want to be upgrading that anyway. you'll also need a v8 transmisson - but having said that, you'd probably want a rebuilt auto for the v6 conversion. same with exhaust, you'll need to buy it for the 304 (the standard shit should do anyway - people sell it for $100), but for the v6 you'd probably want proper extractors and exhaust so the additional costs are basically the same for either motor anyway.
all in all there will be about $4000-$5000 difference. and the v8 will have way more torque and would probably be faster. fast v6s are cool but impractical and huuuuge money pits.
