Hi there all, I have a non lsd diff out of a vr v6, the diff is fine.... but its not an lsd.... I also own a VP senator.... but the crown and pinion gears in the diff are stuffed... I would like to know if i can use the crown and pinion gears off the v6 diff to suit the lsd centre in the senator... The lsd centre is in perfect condition in the senator its just the crown and pinion gears that are stuffed....
Thanx in advance...
cheers

i know you can put a lsd centre from any bw78 diff (irs or not) into a non-lsd housing, and also that bw78 pinions and crown wheels are also interchangeable between diffs (to swap ratios) so yeah, but you'd want to look at getting it done professionally to set the backlash and tolerances properly. but to make it easier/cheaper i'd pull the pinion/crown wheel out of the v6 diff yourself. there's a link in howto.
the only problems i'd say you'd encounter is that some v8 diffs are shot peened meaning stronger, also i think some hsv's ran different ratios than the stock 3.08:1
Yes the gears will swap. They wont be shot peened but the V6 ones are still strong enough for a 10 second car. You will be fine
Thanx for the replies guys, I will attempt to have a go at changing them over.... do u think it will do much for the ratio... considering the vr diff was out of a v6...

the vp gts apparently ran 3.27:1, but tbh i don't know what the senator ran. most other vn>vts1 diffs were 3.08:1. the only way it could change would be for the worse (and that's if the senator had a shorter ratio) the crown gear in the senator should have the ratio stamped in the side.
unless you can't afford to eat next week, i'd think about getting it put in professionally. you can munch gears fairly easily if it's not set right, better to invest a little now rather than having to do it again down the track.
Thanx again for all the help guys... Hopefully i can get this done soon, the noise is really loud.... lol
cheers

I'd be finding out why the gears are stuffed in the first place...its important to check the wear pattern of the gears, id take the broken gears to a diff joint and show them, chances are they've seen 100x other sets like that and know exactly what caused it. after all nothing worse than doing a job twice...
