probably but the 253 wouldnt have nowhere near the power of a stock v6 unless the 253 is heavily worked it wouldnt be worth the effort.

power wise the engine wouldnt be much chop compared to the v6, plus fuel economy wont be anywhere near as good. i imagine the mounts would need to be changed, and legally i think there was some rule about the engine has to be from the same year or newer? dont hold me to that mate.

You can do it no problem, but it's not legal (unless you have an emmisions test done), Power will be down over a V6 while torque is up for a net gain of about nothing it would just sound better. But you may as well spend a few hundred more and put a injected 304 in

Why?There have been a few worked motors advertised for a v6 on egay and on here that would be a much more worthwhile investment..coupled to a good tune and airflow it would kill a 253.....253 was only ever a good tow motor and nothing more.If its sound you are after then a decent exhaust head work and extractors etc etc will fix that and cheaper on parts as well than a 253....If you want an 8 then go vn v8 and it will fit, even a vp 5 ltr will fit straight in and is legal if done right without hassles. Contact Greenfoam for your tune . Just my 2 cents anyway

You can put anything in anything in any state so long as it is proven to pass the required emissions for that car and is of a safe weight and power level. But that all costs alot more than putting an engine in that's allready proven to pass (5 litre/LS1 etc)

I think he's right there to be honest paul, I remember talking to a guy at the pits about engines for the VN.. as long as it was in the same (or better) emissions era as the car, you're OK.

I'm still waiting for someone to put a carby 304 from a VL into a VN it would be totally silly but 100% legal and would make nice sounds and you could drive it for OK pirces on lpg :P

haha brilliant! As if you would though, they are extra slow :P That was one of the sales pitches for the VN V6, and part of the reason they saved Holden the new V6 was faster / more powerful than the old V8.
