I am doing the whole filter range changeover(old to new) and was wondering whats the best option for air, fuel and oil filters...cheers.

air filters you'll hear different things. i've got a K+N. never had a problem. there are a couple of different washable ones out there. oil i just use OEM with a hard disk magnet on the side.
don't forget to do transmission while your at it :P
Whats with the hard disc magnet and also whats needed for a trans service/fluid change? How does the hard disk magnet help and where do i put that?

Delco oil filters any good?

HDD magnets are just wicked strong magnets, if you've ever pinched any part of yourself between them you'll know what i mean. chucking one on the oil filter will hold any particles of ferrous metal that might otherwise recirculate.
same basic principle as the magnetic sump plugs some mobs sell, just a home version.
hard disk magnets are rare earth, but behold the power of strong magnets!

Yeah a mate uses them for metal detecting attached to his pick to take all the crap metal out of the holes he digs....i am doing it.....you are a handy guy to know powerslave

What size magnet mate?

lol its amazing how much metal i had running around inside my motor on the everyday driver till i used a hard disk magnet on the oil filter, that poor 202 will die 1 day lol

I never would have known about it if you guys had not said it.....i am mechanically challenged.

theres no easaay way of doing other than getting under the car, undoing the 20 or so bolts holding the transmission sump on (its a rounded, oblong pan looking thing, probably covered in grime, dirt and dents) having the oil drain out all over the place, whacking a new one in place (last i checked, burson's have it $20 service kit)
and then bolting back up, filling transmission oil and done :P
now that i think about it, it is pretty easy. just messy![]()
Cheers mate...i am learning at last.

hard disk magnets are flat and i guess kinda the size and shape of a flat segment of orange. all the desktop hard disks i've pulled apart have been the same, but there might be differences in some of them. there's also a mob that make magnets in packs shaped kinda like stubbie holders specifically for oil filters, but why pay for something you can get for free (and get to break something in the process)
here's the pro version
here's mine

i use a k&n air filter on my vx, they're gauranteed for like 1million ks or something. just buy the cleaning kit. about $30 and get probs 12 washes out of that. just the price of the filter is a fair bit, but worth it in the long run. if you do regular services, say ever <10,000k's generic filters will do for the oil and fuel filters.. they're exactly the same as whats in the ryco box, except a minor difference in the element inside the filter..
cheers..
I am in the mood for breaking stuff now.I am buying a K&N in the morning and an oem oil filter

Here's a tip: don't worry about the best, just change them often and you'll be right. Here's what my VN V6 gets every 5000km:
Ryco oil filter or whatever else is cheap (and now with a HDD magnet, thanks powerslave!)
Penrite oil whatever I feel like buying on the daymotor is still very fresh so I change this up a little sometimes.
K&N filter clean, using the cleaning kit. A simple wash and oil process.
Fuel filter do maybe once a year
Trans service you should really do every 20,000km; every 10-15000 if you give it a hard time. I only do mine every 40,000 or so now because of the sheer amount of oil coolers I have in the fluid path, it never goes bad.
Brake fluid change every 20,000 or so
Coolant Nulon concentrate whenever I need to (I seem to frequently do jobs that require dumping it)
can't think of anything else off the top of my head

Hey the filter mag for a vp v6 is $71 +$11 postage and when i asked how hard they are to get off the filter if you need to change it they replied that they have never had any trouble....yeah right its a mega strong magnet that apparently needs the user to take great care when installing.
