Default What to do with these things?

    Hi all,

My VP Berlina LX has a couple of broken/missing bits in it that I would like to replace.

    1. Knob to increase/decrease break when wipers are on intermittent missing (plus one half of what it actually clips onto).
    2. Knob to increase/decrease dash lights missing.
    3. Light behind fuel guage on dash flashes sometimes (it's otherwise not working).
    4. Driver's electric window switch is faulty (twice now I've had the window all the way down and it wouldn't go up until ages after - I know it's the switch for sure)
    5. Ah.... 'clip' which the driver's visor latches onto snapped (pushed it back to original position too hard).
    6. Power antenna seems to be pretty stuffed. It only goes up in the morning (sometimes normally, may stop half way up) and during the day it generally either doesn't work or move a few inches only. Sometimes when going all the way down after turning the radio off, the motor keeps trying to put it down even though it already fully is and makes a horrible loud clicking noise which doesn't stop until you turn the radio back on again).

I think that's all.....quite a few little things that will get my car up to speed. What should I do/where should I go to fix 1-6?

    Thanks!!!!!

1 & 2 have to come from the wrecker.

3 - Pull the cluster apart to replace yourself (bulbs are cheap as).

    4 - Wrecker.

    5 - Wrecker.

I dont know if any of this stuff is still avaliable genuine.

possibly the wrecker. its a gamble though if it will be any good or not.

I dont think you can use any-old power antenna. Others may know more on this.

It seems to be pretty tricky to actually access the antenna, what's the best way to do it?

antenna comes off behind the plastic gaurd in front of the wheel (take the wheel and plastc gaurd etc....)
pick up a new power ant from anywhere. less than $50 usually and use any wires that are already in place when installing the new one.

I live in the outer eastern suburbs of Melb, where are there some good auto parts outlets/wreckers (there are a few in the Bayswater area, not sure what they supply exactly).

Yep, turn the steering wheel hard left and have a look in the wheel well. You will see some self tapping bolts that hold a plastic guard in. Take out as many as you can, then turn the wheel left and take the rest out. The bit of plastic will come out with some coaxing.

If there still isnt enough clearance you may have to jack up the car and PUT IT ON AXLE STANDS OR WOODEN BLOCKS and remove the wheel. DONT leave it on the jack else you'll crush yourself.

    Good luck!

What do you mean by 'in front' of the wheel? By turning the wheel hard left (as someone else suggested), where exactly is the plastic guard I need to remove?

ok, you know the wheel well is kinda an upside down U shape when you look at it side on.

If you look inside the wheel well and feel around you will find that it isnt metal all the way round. There is a piece of plastic between the front quarter panel to about 1/2 way inside the wheel well. It is U-shaped just like the wheel well.

Turning the wheel just lets you get a spanner / screwdriver in there to undo all the retainers.

Hey I was just wondering whether you actually need to buy a brand new power antenna kit if you already had one in the first place. I actually bought a cheap antenna from supercheap auto today and was wondering whether I will still be able to use the power antenna controls once I have installed it...

rusty_29, i have the same query...

I have a VN Calais, original antenna was replaced with a manual rigid antenna (someone musta broken it and done a cheap replacement).

I have replaced with a Supercheap $50 electric antenna, but having problems with the antenna not working properly... is this because it is not compatible with the Calais Power antenna Controller?
